US brash buys French flash
Quote:Hip New Yorker fashion boss buys impish fashion designer, but is it a marriage made in heaven? IT IS hard to think of two designers more different in their work, taste and general sensibilities than Tommy Hilfiger and Karl Lagerfeld. If the latter is fashion's Parisian intellectual imp, Hilfiger is its New York-rooted creator of hip but wholesome sportswear. But yesterday Tommy Hilfiger announced that it had acquired the trademarks of Karl Lagerfeld for an undisclosed sum. The deal, which includes his main label Lagerfeld Gallery as well as other Lagerfeld collections, is intended to expand the brand internationally with Lagerfeld himself still at the creative helm. It will not affect his work as creative director of Chanel or Fendi.
