True. I've learned to let go when it comes to small details. But when I get sent too many ties that don't match the patterns I ordered, it's less a matter of being idealistic, and more a matter of "who's ties are these?"

8 cm. I think it's dead-on. At the end, I just had to go with what felt right. Lucca recommended 7 cm, which I didn't feel comfortable with at all; Mariano seemed to be of the opinion that anything between 8 and 9 cm would be fine on me.

Ack. "Whom is fooling whom?" -- Joan Crawford.

Whose.

Sorry to bump this but two things: 1) Convince me that this is worth it or I'm an idiot. I'm torn and a your opinions would be great. I was also thinking about wearing it with a light grey shirt with banker's/club collar. Opinion? http://cgi.ebay.com/New-E-Marinella-...QQcmdZViewItem 2) Government is entertaining in weird ways. Hopefully the link works, but this is a list of gifts the President accepted in 2005-2006. It notes the president accepted 6 Marinella ties worth $810 in 2005 because "Non-acceptance would cause embarrassment to donor and U.S. Government." By the way, it came from His Excellency Silvio Berlusconi, President of the Council of Ministers of the Italian Republic. This list is entertaining enough to me to justify bumping. At the top of the PDF just search for "Marinella" to see the stuff I mentioned. http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/2006/pdf/06-6688.pdf

If you like it, buy it. I am not a fran of neither that tie (looks like a girl's tights) nor the premiun that Marinella commands over Drakes and Holliday & Brown, who I think make equivalent quality ties, at a minimum. Marinella though, is one of those vaunted brands that are discussed on the fora, even though most have never had one, so the exclusivity and fora-approved status may appeal to you but would you buy this tie if the maker was Brooks?

Vitamin C: I kill indiscriminately, not just DJ's.

edmorel and Film Noir Buff: the Marinella name holds almost no sway on my decision besides the fact its quality (assuming it's real) is assured. To be totally honest, I'm just not experienced/refined enough to know tie quality. I just want a nice, versatile silk knit and I definitely fell in love with that pattern. If you know anywhere else to get the same silk knit in that pattern I would appreciate it greatly. The reason I'm struggling is actually the price - please do point me to a good supplier or store.

$80 for a high quality silk knit is a good price, if you like the pattern. Drake knits are going for $125 at Barney's now, and may even be made by the same Italian maker.

Do you love the pattern or the color scheme? If it's just the horizontal stripes, some folks have bought somewhat similar (though not black and white) knits here:

http://www.bodenusa.com/sale/col.asp...2&gen=&col=003

I haven't bought from them, but there's a thread here:
http://www.styleforum.net/showthread...light=knit+tie

To be honest, when you mention wanting a "versatile" knit, black and white stripes don't immediately pop to mind.
