Upholstering an Eames lounge chair in tweed - Page 5

Bump. Got my plycraft eames knockoff. J's is closer to the real thing--mine has the four leg base and less faithful armrests, which is fine. Talking to local upholsterers now b/c I don't think I can do it myself.

One of the shops I was looking at (Home Anthology in Baltimore, great place) had a real Eames and a plycraft in-store. Obv the real thing is nicer--more neatly proportioned, less awkward angles--but the one they had, which was beat to hell, sold for over $3k.

I'm a bit surprised. I don't know a whole lot about MCM stuff when it comes to authenticity and the like, but Home Anthology (which is right around the corner from my house, actually) is generally pretty inexpensive.

Their prices are generally quite reasonable. Same stuff in DC sells for more. I've seen knockoff Eames chairs in good shape go for 600-700 here. The one HA had in stock yesterday had some issues but I think it was $300.

The $3k Eames he had at HA was apparently quite old/rare, I was just surprised that the piece, which needs a significant amount of work, would go for that much.

This question is just naive. It's like asking "can I get a shoe made out of real calf leather or am I relegated to plastic and synthetics?"

Various tweeds were commonly used in the 1950s and 60s for furniture and continue to be used for car interiors.

Just find a local upholsterer to do it.
