Considering a pin-stripe suit.....

I already have a solid navy and charcoal suit (both fused), and am considering a new full canvas pinstripe suit from one of the top Italian makers that I have learnt about from this forum. What do you guys think about this charcoal with amber pin stripe? Do the amber pinstripes look too loud? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws....MEWA:IT What is the traditional pinstripe colour that goes on charcoal or navy blue? Thanks very much in advance.

I don't think Amber is too loud when it is in thin pinstripes like this. The most common stripe colors you'll see are white, pearl (slightly off-white), or light blue. Just be aware that this is an awfully big jump from fused to Borrelli. Have you ever tried one on? Are you certain this is what you want? I'd go to a high-end store if possible and just try some stuff on -- you may be surprised at what you like wearing, as opposed to looking at.

A lot could depend on your complexion: are you the type to wear a lot of warm colors--yellows and golds and that sort of thing? If you are, there would probably be some synergy with those amber stripes. If you have a fair/cool complexion with blue undertones, and prefer white/blue/icy pink shirts with your suits, it might not be the best match. Not relevant to this suit, but does anyone else associate very closely-spaced pinstripes with the 1980s?

I tried on some Zegna Napoli Couture suits before. I like the drape. It feels, how should I put it, more flexible and natural. What is Borelli's reputation like in the world of serious suit tailors?

No. I like closely spaced pinstripes. I actually think they are more modern than 1980s.

Borrelli is top-flight, along with Kiton and Oxxford. At least as good as Attolini and Brioni -- in my opinion better than Brioni. Make sure you note the measurements of the pants -- some Borrellis have uber-narrow legs.

Interesting. I don't really know where I got this idea. I'm more of a chalk-stripe guy, anyway, I think.

I like closely spaced stripes, chalk stripes (though unfortunately my great chalk stripe Purple Label suit almost looks TOO GOOD to wear often), double track stripes (I saw an incredible Belvest one at Ari Boston -- a place you should absolutely check out). Geez, I just love suit for crying out loud.
