A Blind Date - Page 4

Bear with me: (and this is probably outrageous to most American men) but this French woman would actually think it perfectly fine if she were given the choice of where to meet, for a first or a second date.  Did you decide or propose the first venue?  If so, I say: it's her turn.  But I realize things are probably not done that way in America, so don't listen to me.  And don't get me started on who should pay for dinner.

Yeah, I think you should LET her pay for dinner.

Not sure how well that would go over in Detroit, but here in OC there would be a pretty long awkward pause until the guy picked up the check...

Hey, that's funny. Alexis just said the same thing, then edited it out. And then you said it. Small world, I guess...

Thank goodness I had this American male friend who would give me advice about American men when I was confronted with such "situations". I still, most of the time, did things my way, which confused a few, granted. As I said earlier, don't listen to me. The culture gap is too deep. And yes, good luck on the date.

Let her think that she's going to pay for dinner, then go to the hostess and ask to pay for your dinner while you are "using the restroom."

Ha. Hilarious. Good catch, buddy. The trick to using double personas on the internet is to use two different computers. That way you won't get confused. Somewhere, in an unmarked grave, a cold-war spy is rolling over.

Well, they could be roommates or friends... Tokyo Slim and mnemonic occasionally post from my living room, and neither of them is me, so it's not unheard of.

If I'm not mistaken, isnt Bryce's avatar Smoove-B from www.theonion.com? His column is hilarious.
You are correct, sir. I'm glad somebody recognized it. A couple of months ago somebody on another thread actually thought that was a picture of me.
