I think it's more an aesthetic thing though, I wouldn't even care if the blade was blunt.

I've been really impressed with my Longchamp 10-rib walking umbrella that I bought in Paris at the start of December - does anyone else have experience of this brand of umbrella??

I had been thinking about buying a James Smith 10-rib brolly, but think I will rely on the Longchamp and my cherrywood Brigg for the time being.

The only problem is that none of them is quite as huge as the Brigg golfer which was broken in November's storm, so I am sometimes having to make do (oh the shame) with my fibreglass frame golf umbrella (which ususally lives attached to my golf bag) - it isn't what you would call elegant though.....

I bought a Fox umbrella from Bates the hatter at the beginning of summer 2009. Within 6 months the canopy had started to fray badly; after 12 months the rib joints were rusty. Although it stood up well in high winds, once it got bent in transit by plane and later lost the tip of its ferrule I wasn't too upset when I left it at a friend's house last weekend. Now in the market for a replacement!
