Just made myself a G&T last night, drank it whilst grilling foods. Definitely a great summer libation. I also made a "Death in the Gulf Stream" for the first time this weekend; apparently a favorite of Hemingway's: juice of one lime dash of bitters gin lots of ice ^ very good in this heat.

Kir or Kir Royale if you're feeling festive is an easy cocktail, very suited for this weather if you ask me and a small step from wine. While it all depends on your taste, popular summer evening cocktails are the caipirinha, mojito, mint julep, daiquiri, margarita, fruity martini, cosmo, mai tai and tequila sunrise - just to name a few.

How about a bourbon Manhattan? Go with two shots of bourbon, half a shot of sweet vermouth, and a dash of bitters. I also came up with one of my own (I think). I call it a Garnet due to its color. It's a shot of vodka, a shot of cranberry, two shots of Coke, and a lemon twist over ice. I'm not really much for mixed drinks, but I like these two.

A spiked cranberry and coke with fruit? I'm sceptical. While I try everything, that one's.. interesting.

A properly made Long Island Iced Tea will make everybody feel good.

Caipirinhas, Gin Rickeys and Daquiris are consumed pretty much nightly at my place. Take the soda water out of the Rickey and it's all the same drink with the only variant being the alcohol. An easy way to get a lot of bang out of a small number of ingredients.

G&T pretty well tops the list, although if you've got fresh mint in your garden, mojitos are quite nice as well. A good wheat beer is another option, although recommendations vary between brands. If you've got a local brewer I'd look into that.

For a summer drink, I recommend the Dark 'n' Stormy.

Ginger beer + rum. Simple, refreshing, tastes good.

If you're a lightweight you can go Amaretto Sours or Tom Collins if you like gin. I just started drinking cocktails in the past few months so I always try a few new ones when we go out.
