Looking at these options...
I know the darker shades are probably more practical but I love the lighter shades. Are there any other good options out there in a similar price range that I'm missing?

Go with the Kenmoors if you want something chunkier, McAllister for the sleeker look. If you want the Alden Longwings, seems like the Kenmoors would be a more similar choice. I have the McAllisters though and they're great shoes, easily the best last AE has, and quality on AE calfs are equal to Alden calfs imo.

Not a fan of the McNeils. You can kinda see it on the pic, but in real life, the medallions are just in a ridiculously low position.

second vote for grey.

navy color

I've never bought a button down jcrew before, I usually aim for more higher end. But I just spent a butt load on 5 jay kos shirts, and my fiancee told me this week she wished I had more plaid. So this looked like a good cheaper alternative.

Any experience with them? I'm a small guy, so I'm hoping the small will be semi slim-fitting at least.

they are not slim fitting at all no matter what all the fan boys try to tell you

Well as long as it doesn't fit like a tent, I'm not exactly looking for BoO slim. I just kinda want to know about the quality, how long they last/take to fade, if they fall apart at all, etc. I don't really want to end up with something similar to my last purchase (arnold zimberg), which I swear won't make it through five more wears.

I actually decided to try sizing down on Jcrew button downs after years of going TTS and have had great results. I risk the shirt being too small if I shrink it in a hot wash/dry, but if I go TTS I would have to get it tailored for it to look remotely the same. Also, that blue gingham is on sale at jcrew stores as well so you can try it on and get an idea of how it fits.

I really should have looked for this post before making another thread on it. I guess I'll have to delete my other thread. Anyways...

Should I buy this Jcrew belt:

Edit: I wear a size 14, so that also limits my options quite a bit

Have you thought about used Florsheims from ebay? Might have to be patient to find your size, but the Imperial is a solid shoe. Not quite a replacement for the Aldens, but I would choose them over new, retail price Florsheim or A-E.

Yea, I mean if I was going to grab a pair of Florsheim Imperials then ideally I'd pray I could to pick up a pair of NOS, but I won't hold my breath. Not sold on the idea of buying a used pair of shoes off eBay without being able to try them on or see them in person. It would have to be a pretty incredible pair for me to consider it.

as long as you know your size in a particular brand, the risk is low. worst case is you flip it at a small loss. best case is you end up with several nice shoes at a small fraction of retail.

This is like asking should I buy a white t-shirt? It's a freaking white braided belt, about as basic as you can get for summer wardrobe staples. You either like it or your don't.
