Regular sole is fine as long as it is somewhat thick. Commando sole would also work. Something along the lines of yang li derbys but less formal would be perfect if that gives you a picture. Ann D is an option but I have not had good experience with the quality on those. Budget is max 350-ish.

Dries van Noten generally has derbies with commando soles of varying profiles - might be worth looking for that? I like my various pairs.

still think rafs are the best option, but the sole might not be thick enough for you.

@the shah it's definitely still worth a shot at the ln-cc prices. My issue was a combination of things, I loved them until I put them on. I think it was mostly that the toe box was too high and rounded and the "laces" were reall small and narrow, like the eyelets needed to be placed wider or something.

End had these Church's. I couldn't find them anywhere else but you may have better luck being in EU. They're made of calf and not the binder stuff they usually use. Dries has a lot of thick/vibram soled derbies every season but I could only find a navy version from SS16. American models generally don't have the wider toe/taper shape. Also, I'm pretty sure Rafs are the same if not the exact same shape as Church's Shannon. And I believe they both use polished binder which gets a lot of hate because all scuffs become permanent.

Edit: Now that I check, these Church's are available in most sizes on their website and on Farfetch.

Edit2: Also just kopped a pair so I'll let you know.

Dries van Noten and those Church's are good recommendations. Raf's could work too, although maybe a bit formal for what I'm going for. Thanks for the input.

I also recommend the Dries derbies if you can find them in staple colors, leathers.

Light grey or beige?

Grey looks darker (better IMO) in some photos and lighter in others.

Is the light grey actually "natural", if so the grey. I have the jet cap and zip wallet in the natural and it's awesome.
Hmm...not sure. I thought the natural was more like a non-suede veg tan leather? I could be thinking of something else.

Yeah they have a natural like that and then also a natural/white suede. But I took a look at those totes and I don't think that's what the grey is. I prefer that beige colour personally.

Yeah, I'm trying to decide which one would be more versatile. Offhand I think the grey one might look better if I'm wearing all grey and black but the beige one might look better when it inevitably gets stained with indigo.

More derby talk.

Came across these Filippa K.

I'm somewhat sceptical of the quality of their shoes, and they did not feel as sturdy and high quality leather as some CM brands like Alden, Churchs, etc. Naturally, the price is also half of those at 300.

Does anyone here have experience with Filippa K shoes?

Shape was quite good and the sole is thick enough for what I am going for. Not sure about the grain leather. Maybe not as versatile as plain.

Btw, how does Dries derbys fit?

The last looks ugly tbh
