Should I or shouldn't I buy... (clothing item)? - Page 2508

also in the market for some denim, specifically something which actually fits me in the waist, everything i own is way too big. true measured 29" where i wear my jeans. would love something in a slim straight fit, similar to the eg cinch back or usn pant fit (about a 7" leg opening at 30" inseam with a medium rise. no more n&f super low rise bullshit), between $150 and $200, and made in the usa or japan. my shortlist right now is epla wilshire (although i can't find much info about these from people who own them, which is frustrating) in 14.5oz kaihara or the japan blue skinny straight/tight straight (what's the difference?) in vintage raw selvedge. any other suggestions?

edit:
alright, after browsing rakuten for a bit, I think I've narrowed my shortlist down to the epla, jp0701 (http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/bears/item/japanblue-jb0701/), and eternal 883 (http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/and-japan/item/10001959/).

Well in my head I could go either way with it. There's a F/W black padded mainline one that I'm eyeing, but I think it may be too small. It's an EU 50 and I'm not sure how much padding might affect the measurements.

I was just in Bears yesterday actually trying on both those jeans, my favorite one was actually these:

http://global.rakuten.com/en/store/bears/item/japanblue-jb0406/

I was trying on the JP0701s, but the entire top block was one size too slim. The JB0406s sized up one give a more relaxed top block and a bit more rise while still tapering down to a nice clean silhouette - they fit just like the JP0701s in a size smaller from the thigh down. The 14oz denim is a perfect weight, not ridiculously heavy but still feels quite substantial. A fantastic value for the price and one of the more modern cuts I've seen for this style of denim.

The Eternals are a much more classic repro cut. They don't look nearly as clean down the leg and are a bit of a boring, boxy cut, though that might be what you're after. They're also about $50 more for the same quality.

edit: This is exactly how these two models fit me, you can see they both look the same from the leg down, but the JB0701 is quite tight in the butt/crotch/thighs while the JB0406 will have a bit more room if you go up one size

Not to mention, "cell bitch" denim.

Love these auto-translates sometimes, too bad these aren't on the "judo tortoise" side of things:

a feeling [rather hard 1 2 3 judo tortoise ← →]

And this is downright zen:

rise [be surprised, and deepen 1 2 3 4 5 ← →]

oh wow, never expected this type of response, thank you!

see, i actually like the slim top block. all my denim now is too big in the top block and looks sloppy (you can actually see in bears photos where the crotch kind of folds over on the 0406, i'm trying to avoid this). i'm going to compare measurements to the fit i'm after and make a decision, but I'm very glad to hear you were impressed by the quality. were you wearing them tts (to true measured waist, not your normal pant size) or sized down at all?

Interesting, those memphis tapered serves as my "standard" denim when I feel like wearing raw denim. It's medium weight and the fit is pretty decent. Even though it's labeled as tapered, it's not really tapered by SF standards, more like 7.5" for my size 31. Honestly feels like a straight leg in comparison to some other stuff.

Much more prefer denim now with some poly in it for stretch.

i was more inclined to go with the standard "vintage selvedge" denim over the memphis.

does anyone know if bears will hem denim before shipping?
The 14.8oz is a bit slubbier and stiffer than the 14oz memphis / zimbabwe, which was a bit easier to wear for me - I don't like super heavy denim and prefer something I can wear year-round. Both are fantastic, however. Keep in mind the "crotch fold" you're looking to avoid is a bit more prevalent with the 14.8oz due to the weight of the fabric

I took the tight straight TTS with regards to my measured waist and the tapered sized up one. And like Dbear pointed out, the tapered isn't that tapered compared to non-repro brands - it's much more like a straight leg. You can go TTS in it for a tighter top block and slightly cleaner lower leg, especially if you want to stack. If you're going to hem/cuff and want something a bit fuller below the knee, yeah, the tight/straight might be a better choice. Like most jeans they'll stretch .5 - 1 inch in the waist and shrink back down when they're washed. I wouldn't try to size down unless you have no butt or like pain

Bears should be able to hem before shipping out, dude has some sick sewing machines right in the store

yeah the 0701 cut really sounds like what i'm looking for. a little confused because the bears measurements seem significantly smaller than the blue owl ones for the same model (29.5" v. 28.3" waist in the same size), but i'm guessing that's the diff between o/w and raw, despite the fact that they're sanforized. but, i think i'll go with your tts suggestion, which for me is 29.
