Should I or shouldn't I buy... (clothing item)? - Page 2217

Most people will always need to wear a suit from time to time. Buy better shoes.

Those corrected grain uppers will crease poorly and not be wearable even with trees after a year or two

Allen Edmonds aren't that much and if you can get your size during the seconds sale then it's like $120 I think

You can get away with most sw&d footwear with a suit though

Thanks for the help guys.

Stevent I was considering Allen Edmonds before and will probably just get a pair of them. Any recommendations for a specific model besides strand or park avenue? When is the 2nds sale? Is it just emailing shoemart at AE?

And KJ I think you may only be able to get away with SW&D footwear with a casual linen or cotton suit at a very casual event. It won't work with a wool suit.

You can't wear black or brown boots with a wool suit? (Maybe you guys are picturing like the Guidi fake-distressed! reverse baby or something, idk).

I wouldn't in any remotely formal situation. There used to be some AE proxy in the MC classifieds who could get them below retail new. I would suggest getting your size down for a pair of Park Avenues or something at Nordstrom and then placing an order through him as he doesn't do returns.

Right, I keep forgetting where I live. laugh.gif

Still, if you're going to splurge(ish), maybe some nice, slightly more versatile derbies or something?

I don't really want to resurrect this discussion since it's been had before but I think in an environment where everyone's wearing these with their men's wearhouse suit, some boots are fine:

Stanley van Buren does attend many weddings.

But if you put thought and care into how you dress normally, why wouldn't you for special occasions too?
Granted nice formal footwear can cost quite a bit which may be why you'd want to use some "sw&d"-footwear you can use for other occasions too, but then again if you take good care of them and won't use them very often you can likely make it the rest of your life not buying another pair, so splurging just once may very well be worth it.

Job interviews? Weddings? Funerals? Formal dinners? Black tie? Career change? I would imagine that everyone experiences at least one of those periodically.

These situations are precisely when you don't want to look 'cheap', might as well spend the cash
