Lester I'm gonna dissent, I don't really like that margiela blazer, IIRC the price wasn't great either.  I could see it in a kinda fruity floral fit, but not with your normal style.

Plus the tux jacket's so much cooler.

Fuuuuuuuuucckckckckck. See, this is why I should never shop online. Did you find any good ma-1? I must say I'm not sure I am down with the Rick slimmer style, I maybe want a little bit of roundness, nothing like the original ones but something not totally transformed by fashion, which is why W)taps seemed like an ideal brand considering their usual offerings.

Note: anyone in NYC has seen something in stores I'll be there friday and stay for a few days so let me know where I can check something out. I only want specific recs for MA-1 you've seen, I already know the cool stores and stuff.

Dorje, I don't think those pants would work with your current reinventing of your style/wardrobe. Be careful not to just buy stuff cuz it's a good price or you think somehow, someday it will work...I have done that way too many times already (and sadly still do)

You are definitely right about that... but I want to have an alternative to jeans/tees/knits/workwear. I haven't posted fits of anything different but eventually I will. It might be a little while because of exactly what you're saying (need to be discerning) plus the fact I can't spend huge amounts of cash.

I am looking at black boots or black oxfords or derbies (plain with thicker soles, not dressy), black/white/grey trousers and button-up shirts, a few minimal blazer-ish things (not dressy), longer black or neutral colored coats. And some colors like deep browns/purples in either button-up shirts or tees, but mostly monochromatic. I'm trying to keep each piece I buy very simple.

I've ebayed almost everything I own(ed) that was either too big or business-casual because I don't work at an office (and with any luck never will again).

I guess if you want to change direction in your wardrobe you've gotta start somewhere, and what you're buying won't necessarily fit in with what you have, or you wouldn't be changing direction at all.

They seem a little too rugged/overkill, like the classic timberland boots almost.I know they've updated their lineup considerably, but I feel it would require me to make other, related changes to the rest of my wardrobe for them to go with.

Plus they look really, really hot and summer is on the cusp of breaking out in full force here in SoCal
