anyone have experience with alpha industries? they have a cheap m65 that looks to be good quality (they use to make them for the military i guess?) and i found one in an xs which wouldn't be too oversized on me.

alright, not buying those MMM lows, really wish that eBay seller that reedo purchased from had 40's for sale, curse my stupid baby sized feet. and mike868y, I like the coat, I'd say depending on price that would be a good one to fill that niche

Need a moderately warm, everyday coat for the winter in memphis (rainy, probably doesnt get colder than around 15-20 F). I can't spend much because I bought a TOJ (john coppidge?) leather recently, but need something as the only good looking cold weather stuff I have atm are thick sweaters which won't cut it when winter hits.

would love to find something that would work with both my slim black jeans and sweaters, AND my yohji stuff, but that's probably a pipe dream... that said, how about this uniqlo duffle coat for the more fitted clothes outfits? http://im.uniqlo.com/images/us/pc/goods/073867/item/69_073867.jpg



the grey-ish color is another possibility.

other suggestions? can't spend over $250 in any circumstance (yeah i know) and don't want anything much more formal than a duffle. no chesterfields etc, already have a black peacoat if I need more formality at a pinch. does the duffle look ok? i know its not the best quality probably but i can't really justify a pricier winter coat since memphis winter is only until about march or so.

Mikey, Alpha industries stuff is usually huge. If there is an army surplus store nearby they'd probably stock them. I have their MA-1 and can't say I like the quality. It's durable but the fabric is kinda rough and the zipper is a pain.

Yea, that jacket doesn't look very good Mikey. looks like it's made of plastic and I guarantee you the fit is gonna suck

Buy a NDG m-65, they pop up all the time in small sizes/different colorways. I have one in olive and its cool as hell

When are you expecting the toj?

As for suggestions, how about a high collar coat? Goes well with jeans and slightly roomier stuff ime.

Alpha is fine if its cheap. If it makes you feel better they've made a lot of Supreme's milsurp style pieces. But cut to Supreme's specs. Real modern milsurp is big, but you may actually be better off buying a new one marketed as "vintage." I"d recommend checking out a Sunnys or something; a lot of army navys will have both new alpha/rothco, including sometimes the "fashion" models, as well as old/issued gear. At the least it'll let you rule out certain brands.

It's not going to be wjk or NdG but most of those brands make M65s/field jackets because their designers LIKE/romanticize the milsurp models.

Another mid-high possibility is Ervell's field jackets, which pop up on ebay and Gilt sometimes. Quite nice.

Thank you for all the comments/suggestions. I'm going to see if I can find a local millsurp place and try some stuff one, just to get an idea. A lot of girls here actually wear something that is pretty much what I want, but they're all probably h&m or something. The ervell field parkas are generally quite thick, no? my eg parka is great for winter, but because it's lined it's too heavy for transitional periods. i just kind of want something unlined in that sort of classic military nyco fabric.
