yes, in simplest terms, it's about cohesion. if i see one more drkshdw, w+h and dickies or whatever the **** fit, I will scream.

brand miscegenation was the term used

well, it's one extreme talking to another. guys wearing gap cords + julius leather versus guy wearing all of this rick owens steez. his comment was directed at those in the former group, but it does seem that in general he subscribes to this idea of "inhabiting" the world presented on the runway. but you have to consider that those clothes eventually are bought based on some strange whims of store buyers, and then placed in normal stores in normal towns, and then people come in wearing their relatively undifferentiated clothing (i.e., not everyone who goes to a boutique is a gothninja prowler) and pick something novel off the rack and do succeed in incorporating into an ensemble that by rights has a different DNA strand. by the time something steps out of the runway world and into a high street shop, it has long lost the trappings of the conceptual world in which it is supposed to exist.

this is less so the case for the julius/ro/etc stuff, because its aesthetic is quite specific... but even then, look at those recent celeb snaps of the chick in da red hat. it was your usual rider boots + spandex, augmented by a slightly gothninja (ugh the term) leather jacket. and the red beanie was fine. so why not mix and match?

kunk's stuff is all of a piece, black layers which, while in person i'm sure have some intriguing textural qualities, are still cohesive to the point of being cohesive to a fault. hyper cohesion?

so coming from him, the dictum to not mix seems, i dunno, an unpersuasive insight?

This is exactly why we call you a brand whore. This isn't experimentation. You're just buying stuff that people online endorse. You have no cohesive aesthetic and go on rampant buying sprees without really taking into account which designers' aesthetics work with each other. Basically, you don't know anything about the designers, but you just kopkopkop because sf, sz, sufu, hypebeast, etc. are like ooh **** it's a [insertbrandname] you should kop because it's [brandname] and awesome. Edit: No on the NDCs

The thing is, there are links. Ie, thinking of what's in my closet right now, some Helmut Lang will work with some W+H, which will work well with some Cloak, and some Cloak will work well with some Drkshdw - You could make a cohesive fit with waxed aircuts, some of those beat up NiCo boots, W+H scarf, a helmut lang shirt from 02ish, NDG chunky knit and some Cloak outerwear. There's a lot going on there but I can picture it.

I admit I jumped on the margiela bandwagon. I have found only certain items to my liking, the rest I can do without. But I acheived this knowledge thru exerimntation. I've actually never owned a pair of apc or eg etc(or other brands that are hyped) because I'm not into that stuff. Beleive me I like alot of the stuff in sz but I know 100% that is not for me and have resisted.

I don't know everything about fashion but I do enjoy watching the shows (on YouTube lol) for the stage effects, music and clothing of course. Great vibe!

@snowman +3 on the above advice. Ignore all the haters- the whole " label whore" thing is being beat to death...everyone is a label whore to some extent.
