There's a reason why they lost the war. Maybe if they'd been more concerned with erasing words instead of ethnic groups, things would be different.

Dixon Ticonderogas are actually pretty good, all things considered. When I was in Europe a couple summers ago, I used them exclusively to do all my pencil sketches. Probably the most fun/best 5 weeks of my life.

I bet after just a little hard wear, you'd be down to a nub while a Dixon Ticonderoga, with it's Made in the USA quality, will keep going on and on. And don't forgot about the attached eraser that will keep you mistake free for the life of your pencil.
Your craven worship of utility makes you a styleless survivalist. Your workwear parka has 12 pockets on it. Is that just in case? In case of WHAT? To store more of your dorky pencils? So, too, is your gaudy pink eraser a vestige of Wild West frontierism, an excess of utility. I bet you like to cram all kinds of stuff in your Conestoga wagon, too. Not for us FB users. Ever heard of minimalism, buddy? Ever heard of panache? Fashion pencil for fashion people who sketch by night. Ticonderoga is yellow and pink. Those are safety colors. Those are jogging-suit-at-night colors. Why not slap a reflective triangle on your pencil, too, just in case any ongoing cars don't see you in your heritage Radio Flyer wagon, tooling around the burbs? Faber Castell is gunmetal green and silver like a vintage BMW sedan. It's chic. You know why we don't need a Pink Pearl? Because we don't make mistakes.

Yes.

I'm trying to figure out a way to budget the Ravello Brixtons.

Those are beautiful, too. I really, really want these wingtips but I've blown so much on outwear lately. I'll probably just have to cave.

Greetings from Roanoke, btw.

Hm... perhaps you have a point. I am willing to try out a Faber-Castell but they're too expensive. Is it possible to whittle a Dixon Ticonderoga to resemble one?

I wouldn't talk too loudly about that on this board; people don't look kindly upon counterfeits. I know it's all about the logo-as-status-symbol, but wait and save up for the real thing. The heft of the authentic FB pencil and the paint job, the way the letters are carved in that Futurist/Formalist way... it has to be seen to be believed. Seriously you have to handle Faber Castell's pieces in person to understand the hype. All of the $$$ sticker price doesn't just go into buying a design. They are high quality, really. I'll spare you the details about the Line 14 Replica pencils, because I think it might blow your mind at this stage. For now, I advise looking for a mid-market pencil that is a step up from the Dixon Ticonderoga (Come on, it's the "Dockers" of pencils. Look at how baggy the wood is). Shades of Greige makes good middle-brow pencils. You'll know their pieces because of the distinctive gray cast. Remember to size down 2HB.
