I got in 6.2 miles this morning. The temperature was -11ºF and the windchill brought it down to -32º. I drove to the gym, ran outside, and then went right into the sauna. The hot girl working the front desk actually clapped for me as I came in with my headlight still on and scarf and hat covered in frost and icicles. That was a nice bit of post-run motivation. lol
The worst part was that I left my banana in my Jeep in the parking lot while I was running and it froze. I hate when my banana freezes and then thaws out since it turns to mush inside the skin. Yuck! Hopefully it wasn't frozen long enough to do too much damage to it.
Tomorrow's run is supposed to be back in positive territory, so that's good.
I just can't do a run in these sub zero temps. For me, it is much too dangerous. Temperatures, aside, the roads are treacherous with black ice etc....
So, I have kicked my workout routine up a notch. At least, can do more core strengthening which will pay big dividends when the temperatures, at least, climb up into the 'teens. I've even begun to workout with a (right out of college) trainer in a small no-nonsense gym, down "south" in Michigan Planner's neck of the woods. I need to be pushed, and the trainer is very serious as to good form etc.. Also, seeing others push themselves is an inspiration. All this will make me a better runner.
Yesterday, I think I frightened the cat as I ran up and down the stairs of our house. It is 20 steps up to the 2nd floor. A good workout.
Like Michigan Planner, I, too, have experienced the joy of finding a frozen banana in the car.
