How many miles did you run today? - Page 591
I put in 6.2 miles this morning. Just a few weeks left until the Marine Corps Marathon!
Regarding training for hills in a flat environment - I don't know how well this works, but there are four public parking garages in the city I live in and in the early morning hours I often see a group of guys running up and down the ramps in them. To me, that sounds a bit more interesting than running on a treadmill, so maybe something like that is an option near you.
I'll bet you are seeing a "boot camp" run by Jeff Waters. They meet, early morning, all year long--no matter what the weather is. He's a real believer in running up and down steps in parking structures. For about two years, I did some training work with him.
Congrats SB. I have not trained specifically for short and quick runs as my body seems to work better on longer efforts. Mostly my 5-mile and 10K PRs have been on training runs where I realize I could run X if I sped it up the last mile or two. I told my fiancee "I'd love go quick, but dream of going long"...probably terrible taking out of running context but long runs are soothing.
Good job SB. You'll tear up your marathon pace more than you think.
Sounds like an ultra trail runner in the making.
I've begun my taper and have less than three weeks to go until the Marine Corps Marathon...
I looked him up and found his schedule and the parking garage they use and it is indeed his group. I think I've seen advertisements for him in the local weekly free paper too.
I have a question as my Googling skills were not turning up anything useful:
I usually run in a 8mm drop. My current NB 890v2 have an 8mm drop starting at roughly 28mm in the heel then going to 20-21mm in the forefoot. I am thinking of switching to the NB 1400 with a similar drop but starts at 24-25mm in the heel. Am I going to run into minimalist issues (calf or Achilles pain) or just lower life expectancy of my trainers? I've read a 4mm drop and below start the true minimalist drops.
