How many miles did you run today? - Page 581

Back to the track this morning for about 6 miles but it I was almost entirely .25 mile sprints (with 30 seconds of walking rest between each). At 5:15 a.m. it was nearly 80º and the humidity was downright oppressive. We've been spoiled here this summer in terms of good running weather so I guess I cannot really complain.

7 miles tonite. 90+ degrees for the run, but with lower humidity it wasn't too bad.

I don't know how you guys run in that heat. I found 72° and midday sun kind of unpleasant on Sunday. This morning's 59° and overcast was perfect.

9 sucky miles. I was relieved to get a phone call I had to take while I was out there.

11 miles tonite. Ran on treadmill. Was 94 degrees w/ high humidity and had to do a tempo for 6 miles with 2.5 warm up and cool down. No way I could have got a good run in outside.
I like to run in heat in summer training. It makes you fly in fall weather when its 50 out. Your body feels like you can go forever. I can't do long speed work or a really long (18+ miles) road runs if the heat and humidity is too high. Usually anything under 2 hrs or any amount on trails aren't a problem when hot. Carrying enough water is an issue. I just bought a 70 oz bladder and the Alpha pak from UltrAspire. May be enough to last a long run.

This morning, I ran 5 miles on the new Prairies and Ponds pathway in "Lake Woebegon". The pathway goes through wetlands, river, cornfields, prairie grass etc.... Lots of twists and turns. What was especially neat was running through the low (WHITE) fog by the cornfield just as the sun was rising. Also, I encountered Mister Red Fox who just sat down on the trail and stared at me for a few minutes. Ah, #PureMichigan. #that'snotadog

I did 4.5 miles last night as the sun was going down and am still picking little flying gnats out of my teeth. The true danger of summer evening running isn't being chased by a dog or hit by a car... it's swarms of tiny flying insects.

This morning I got in another 9.7 miles.

Gnats! It's the bug that I swallow that bugs me. The mosquito = our state bird. Although, this summer, the population has been down.

I mustered 5 miles yesterday afternoon...

My next race is next weekend, so I'm into taper mode. I'm planning to crush my PR for the Half Ironman distance. smile.gif

I've signed up for a 10k for tomorrow morning because a friend of mine is back for the holiday from DC and he wanted to race me. Now he says that he is probably going to skip out on it because 8:00 a.m. is too early for him and he's probably going to drink too much at the Tiger game tonight. Had I known he was going to back out, I'd have signed up for a 30k on the other side of town instead.

Oh well. I'll drink tonight and still beat whatever time he would have gotten.
