Running longer than 10. Dehydration blows. I do recommend getting familiar
With eating something on the run for anyone training for longer distance races because you wan
T to avoid discomfort on race day and you need that extra fuel for a marathon.
I hate gu and all that though so I only use it a couple of times during a build up.
15 for me last night w/ miles 10-14 at 6:20/6:13/6:10/6:08. I'm getting back into shape finally.

Cheers, didn't see this originally. Will get some proper running socks and see what its like. What's body glide?

Just the 1 mile today, 12 minutes but with a steep gravel and mud climb and descent down the other side.

6.5 miles in 63 minutes. Just getting my feet underneath me again after the winter.

Quick training goal question. If I want to run a 10k in 50 minutes or less in 3 months, what's the best way to train? I will only run at the weekends but can work out at home during the week. I figure that I should shoot for the following:

Sat/Sun 9m / 3-5m runs, eventual pace goals long at 9 - 9.5 min pace, short at 8m pace
Sun/Tues - squats, lunges, 100-up (more here: http://www.nytimes.com/2011/11/06/magazine/running-christopher-mcdougall.html?pagewanted=all)
Mon Wed - core

I'm probably carrying 5-8lbs above what I'd like, but dieting makes running less fun. Thought on that?

Any input - including links to training sites - welcome.

How do you lot plan your runs/see how far you've been? And do you keep a log?

When I train I use a Polar monitor which captures day, time and distance (+/- 2%). So it does the logging,

I use the Nike+ app on my iPhone, and I also keep a spreadsheet on Google Docs.

Groin muscle strain- been sidelined for 6 days. Going crazy from not being able to run.

Anyone else had a similar injury? Time it took to get back running?

Jesus man, that guy looks like he's 12. Cool though with Babcock.

As far as the groin injury, that sucks, just gotta rest it.

I had a day today where I woke up and thought maybe a run later with the sun high in the sky. Its almost 6, sun is going down, and I'm still in my pajamas...plopped my ass in front of the tv all day, and haven't left. Sometimes you need one of these days...smile.gif

18 miles today, unfortunately, on the stationary bike because of injuring my foot yesterday. My foot felt better after the cycling, and I can now put more weight on it, but I think it's going to be several days - hopefully not weeks - before I run again. The good news is that I enjoyed the cycling more than I thought I would.

I just came back from a pulled groin about a month ago.
I took three weeks completely off. If I had done so sooner than I did, I would have healed sooner than I did. Instead I acted like an idiot and tried to train through it, thus aggravating it and making it worse. After three weeks off, it felt 95% better but I can still feel it flare up occaisionally, and I have be very careful. I hope that helps, and I am sorry to hear that you strained yours - best of luck getting better but you really do have to rest. I learned the hard way. ALSO - they gave me Naproxen (mega advil) as an anti-inflamitory, but you could take like 800mg ibuprofen 2x daily as well.

I got f*cking sick AGAIN this week. I think the combined exposure of working in a big ole office+ dating girls who work in elementary schools + going to school myself has led me to get twice as many colds this year than last year. This one does not seem like the type I can 'run through' sadly, so I will be resting up.

50 miles from m-f 0 for sat sun.

hope to run tmro.
