Six miles in shorts (51 degrees on Dec. 15) including one tempo mile at 90% effort, and a strength workout at the Y.

It was 57 degrees here this morning, albeit rainy, but it is much colder now. frown.gif

I'm working on putting together my training regime now, but because I'm in NYC it's going to be creative, lot's of running the stairs in my building, joining multiple gyms (close to work and home) and spending plenty of time on the trails on the weekends. In short I want to make sure I'm exercising every day and get in 2 a days at least 3 days a week, so figure ~10 workouts a week. As for exactly what those 10 sessions consist of, I'm open to to any and all suggestions, but the basic idea is 1 long swim, 2-3 hill work/ stair sessions which may include circuit training afterwards, and a mix of 6-7 runs of varying lengths during the week. Would also like to get in a yoga session just to make sure i'm stretching enough as well.

There is a guy here in Chicago that is semi-competitive in the Ultra scene.
Here is a link to his blog, he runs tons o stairs and dreadmill.....Im taking him to the secret spot, but sounds like he will put some time in CO or another mountainous area of the country to train long climbs.

I think - and this is just a guess - that he's probably doing it to get his wind at altitude. Karnazes' book where he spoke of his first WS100 said he couldn't catch his breath on the mountains.

3 miles. Lots of ice, this morning. Had to run daintily. Temp is 31; the "high" is supposed to reach 34.

Still no leg coverings. (WHERE did I put the SmartWool?)

Lightweight tights. Wore 'em this morning.

Nemo, where you at? I live in Lake Bluff, we should run sometime!
today was glorious, I also ran in shorts, it was a bit cold but so beautiful out. Not a single soul in my trails.
I hope to recieve a Salomon soft shell vest and soft shell quarter zip for Christmas, that should be warmer than the shell vest I wear now.
I forgot my Ipod, so I listened to my own light pitter patter. Its interesting the difference in the sound of a midfoot strike vs a heel strike.
7 miles @ 53 minutes
