50 miles a week! how many days are you running and what is your long run distance? I wish I could get that many miles in but am happy to get 25-30 in per week.

Today, another 5.3, this time I had a slow starting loop of 10:50 (1.3 miles) and followed it up with three faster loops. Felt a little distress but still wrapped it up in 40:30. Need to get serious about the mileage again.

Quevola: Keep up the good work and good luck with the marathon!

Im going ******* crazy....still no running and we are 12 days post ankle injury.
I have a 10 mile race on Sat. I may or may not run it.

The ankle swelling has been gone for 5 days, pain is gone, doing strength exercises, but delaying running on it as long as possible.

Any one take 14 days off then run that far?
I have in training but not racing.
If I do run I plan on taking it very easy and run with some folks that are well far off of my race pace.

Any advice?

i'm sure you have it in you to bang out 10miles even with that kind of layoff. maybe you bring a small camera with you and really take in the sights and sounds of the race with friends.

during the brooklyn half marathon there were a lot of runners doing that. just running easy and stopping at every cool picture opportunity (like the closed off highway with runners on one side and busy highway on the other, or huge digital traffic signs with HIGHWAY CLOSED BROOKLYN HALF MARATHON blinking, the runners on a 7+sraight mile stretch with coney island rollercoaster in the background).

i was so jealous of these groups of friends just shooting pics and having a blast. its actually pretty rare to have a lot of pictures during a race.

I'm a proponent of not running on an injury. No matter the experience.

I say run on race day, but take it easy, chit-chat with friends most of the way.

I'm typically running 6 days per week. For example, this was last week's log:

Mon: 3
Tue: 10
Wed: Off
Thu: 8
Fri: 10
Sat: 5
Sun: 15

Total:51

My long runs are usually from 14 to 20 miles. But, I would gladly give up some miles for your kind of speed

^^^ sounds normal to me.

Today, another 5.3 miles, 42:02. Got to get more mileage in the upcoming weeks so I can do some honest speedwork.

Seems like a good plan. Take it easy and find a pace which does not really exert you. In case you feel the injury coming up again, go even slower or stop. See how you feel afterwards and take 1-2 days for recovery from this run. If all is well, the injury is gone.

Ok update:

I had a very well respected trainer tape my ankle yesterday. I ran 6 miles @ an average pace of 8:20 minutes per mile.
Felt good while running.
A little sore this morning but by the afternoon feel great.

I will not run today.

I will tape the ankle in the morning for the run.

ON ANOTHER NOTE:

I will take a camera phone with, as the race shirts are a very thin white technical tee!!!! This race has over 10,000 runners so it will be a nice headlight race, and I will share the pics!.

I anticipate running sub 9 minute miles, but will not push to the 7 minute a mile pace I was hoping for.
According to my trainer, this sprain I have (in the very font of the foot), is very painful, but not much damage long term can come from running on it. I will rest if for a few days after and get training for my Seattle R&R half coming up in June.
