Did a 5 mile run, making 18 miles for the week. This is after having done maybe 3 miles/week for the prior month or so. I'm feeling little aches in legs that don't feel familiar. I hope I didn't ramp up the mileage too fast.

I ran 5 miles yesterday at 44 minutes, and I decided to time a mile today and did it in 6:30(goal is sub-6:00). I have a weight-lifter's body but am contemplating dropping some weight to maybe speed up some of this running.
Any larger framed fellows(and I don't mean fat) have any luck on getting faster without getting too skinny? I don't want my bench press to plummet.
Right now I weigh in at around 175 for someone that is 5'9 so by no means am I a light weight. After having surgery last year I let my body go and haven't really gotten back into the shape I want, lack of discipline on my diet. I am not the fastest runner at this weight but I can still go out and run a 5k under in around 19 minutes.
