His place is the only "store" worth visiting in Los Angeles. Everything else is either overpriced, junk, or overpriced junk.

Based on multiple visits to LA over the past 20 years, I agree.
Except Carroll and Co on Canon in Beverly Hills for trad-type sweaters, ties
etc.

No, don't do it. I have this pair (in a different color) and they are lovely, but fit TTS or even slightly bigger.

How are the quality on the SM? I found them in the "Comprehensive List of Links to High-End Shoes"-thread, but I don't seem to find any more info than that.

Thanks for confirming my theory, ace! If you would compare them to another shoemaker, who would that be - Up there with EG etc., or a bit lower like C&J? I have also spotted some nice cap-toes, and I expect they are ine the same quality range? Again, thanks for all your help.

Meh, I'm not a shoemaker, I can't really claim this with any certainty. All I know is that to my eye, they look very well made on beautiful lasts from high-quality leather. I'd probably compare them to C&J rather than EG, but no one should quote me on that.

I'm also wondering the fit of sutor. I really dig this pair but only UK9 is available.
I wear UK8.5E in EG 606 last. Is this pair ok for my size? Anyone? Thanks a lot.

Hello,

I am seeing a lot of questions regarding the fit of Sutor Mantellassi shoes. We get this question very frequently so hopefully I can be of some assistance.

As a "rule" they fit one size up from the marked UK size stamped on the shoe.

Example: A marked 9 UK fits like a 10 US

In our listings we display the actual size marked on the shoe, then we display what we believe the US equivalent is. Clients still often ask, "How does the shoe fit, does it run big or small". The question however has already been answered, e.g. it fits like a US 10 if it is marked as a UK 9. Not bigger, not smaller than a US 10..... but a US 10. It is not an absolute, but it is a very good guideline.

For many clients it is further complicated because they no longer think in terms of what their actual size is anymore. They think in terms of what size they wear in various brands, however that is not a client's actual foot size. A client's foot size is the size they are when they step on a shoe measuring scale, then it is for the client to determine how various brands will fit their actual foot size.

I hope this clarifies how we believe clients should be thinking of what size to select when looking at Sutor Mantellassi, and any other maker's shoes.
