I don't - I was discussing this with somebody today, and I raised my feeling on it: to me, water skiing seems like somethign that rich kids with too much time on thier hands did back in the 50-70's, it doesn't seem like such a contemperary thing. is it substantially more fun that jew skiing, which doesn't require a boat and crew?

anybody?

I used to waterski every day Zach. While in high school my sister and I would hit the water right after breakfast and ski 'til the wind came up and put more than a gentle little chop on the lake surface. It is a helluva workout from head to toe. I now ski just once in awhile, but every time I step up onto that ski I pine for the opportunity to do it daily again. Coincidentally (or ironically), one of my most accomplished skiing buddies was one of my little town's token Jews.

I believe that water skiing has been replaced with wakeboarding amongst the youth.

^^Yep, wakeboarding is where it's at, although wakeboarding is even starting to be taken over by wakeskating (Same thing, except instead of boots, you wear tennis shoes. Don't ask me). I wakeboard pretty much all day every Saturday in the summers. I started water-skiing when I was 6, moved to wakeboarding when I was about 12. Got pretty good at it actually. It's a ton of fun.

I use to water ski every summer while growing up (in the 80's and 90's) and I had a lot of fun doing it. I don't think it was a particularly rich kid thing to do, although you do need access to a boat, so that probably does limit ones ability. I do think wakeboarding has become a bit more popular, but if I had my choice between wakeboarding, jet skiing, and water skiing, I'd probably choose water skiing.

I waterski whenever I can, which means about once every five years, since I don't have a boat. Though I'm not very good, it's a blast!

WTF is going on here? Back to the Future? Man- waterskiing in tennis shoes or barefoot is something I did as a kid.( read: many moons ago) Wakeboarding is fun but my knees don't like it anymore.

thank you all - gives me a new perspective. my 6 year old son did it last week. I liked to see it mostly because I thought that it required some balls - he was about 50 meters off coast in pretty deep water and he held on to the damn rope for a long time without freaking out at all. but I didn't think that it was anything terribly "useful". although I have to admit that a lot of my feeling about it was influenced by my hate of my mother in law, who water skiis.

if it is good enough for my friend Mike, then I guess it is a good thing.

I love wakeboarding. Good workout, helps with my surfing and snowboarding, and its a pretty good rush. I feel its easier than waterskiing too.
