"provenance"

I see this word here on the forum once in a while. Really annoys the **** out of me.

"Your"

As in, you are. Dumb ass learn how to spell. Did you graduate high school English?

"Amount"

As in, there is a large amount of people participating on this chat forum. It's NUMBER. Amount for stuff you can't count; large AMOUNT of water in a lake.

Literally.

"Kobe Bryant was literally on fire last night!"

"Oh my gawd, I like literally took a hundred shots last night!"

"I literally died I was so sick. "

I usually don't mind too much when words take on different meanings, it's just the way the English language works; but "literally" is a unique word that has few synonyms. It needs to be preserved.

Improper use of to too and two, where were wear, etc.

I also hate how white trash bastards use the word "altercation" when speaking to the police and in court.

"Random" has been done to death lately. These days random has come to mean the same thing as unlikely.

I also hate "articulate"

articulate this, articulate that. That's one word even your neighborhood marsupial knows, and uses constantly to look smart.

conversate. as in, "i mo' go conversate wit dis female." the noun is conversation. the verb is converse. invite, when used as a noun. the correct word is invitation. the word got. as in "he got punished for his deeds." he was punished for his deeds. or "i got two packs of cigarettes". i have two packs of cigarettes. also, at. as in "where are you at?" that one really annoys me. it's, "where are you?"

More like phrases, but whatever...

In the American South...

'Do what' instead of 'what' when asking for someone to repeat what they said.

In the Midwest...

'Those ones'

It's 'those'. 'Ones' is superfluous.

'Pop'

I used to say this, but switched to 'soda' because that's what the rest of the world knows it as.
