Chinos...

I need to but some new Chinos for summer. Therefore I need some advice from you guys:

Which brand? Which color? Which ones look trendy, classic, etc.? Which ones have good quality?

I'm very partial to Italian designers like Zegna, which can be pricey unless you get them at the end of the season, or some place like the Rack or Last Call or Off 5th. I've just not had good luck with any of the cheaper designers, even Polo. And to be fair, I had a pair of Barberas that went shiny on me way too quick. I think it was the dry cleaner I was using...Emphasis on "was".

Hey speaking of chinos J.Crew is offering $10 off all their pants. Â I bought a couple pair of chinos yesterday (on backorder, sadly); although I must say I can't really vouch for the quality. Â Anyway, I was particularly interested in "cool" colors with a plain front. Â Chinos + leather saddles + button down shirt = summer time for me.

You asked for colors, so... I like white pants. I think every man should own a pair of white pants that can dress up or casually. Also light khakis are great for summer. If you are near the UK, I have a pair of white pants that I got last summer from a store called Reiss. I've gotten many many compliments on them and they are VERY comfortable.

Otherwise I'll look for them in Europe in a few months.

They do, plus they have an outlet store in Orlando- which I e-mailed you, plus a decent sized store-in-store in Sak's, which I also e-mailed you. If you're feeling real ambitious, you can drive to their boutique in Miami- but there's lots of designers at that outlet mall. John Craig (specialty store) might be worth a try too.

how about if money isn't as much of an issue? If quality is drastically better then I don't mind spending the extra money, but would it really be worth buying chinos from Incotex or Loro Piana over a pair of chinos from Dockers or Brooks Brothers? I know some respectable dressers who wear chinos from the Gap and look surprisingly good.

two things separate the $400-700 Chino from the stuff from the Gap, quality of fabric and quality of construction (and fit but that is more subjective). Good quality cotton is going to cost by the yard as much as good wool. If you were khaki's mostly in very casual settings, then Jcrew/Gap are perfectly fine. If you are looking for something very high quality that is akin to wool to wear with sportcoats etc, then you might consider the higher end stuff.

From what I've seen Incotex chinos (I've never handled a pair so this opinion is based purely on things I've seen/heard) are great quality and the price isn't unjustifiable

on the left is Yves Saint Laurent, on the right is Incotex.. they both seem like a sturdy pair of cotton-twill chinos—the former perhaps being a little more dressy/flashy. Would either pair be okay to wear with a sportcoat? I may pick up both.. The colors are just what I'm looking for.. from what I've seen at Saks Fifth Avenue I think Brioni also makes a nice chino..

similar cuts, good quality, great price, especially now with the sale.

I have.. Oddly Brooks Brothers uses a cheap wrinkle-resistant formaldehyde finish on most of their clothing that always breaks my skin out in a rash after a few hours of wear.. I think it's their trademark "non-iron" formula. Because of this I tend not to wear anything Brooks Brothers..
