how does Hickey Freeman compare to brooks brothers?

By compare, do you mean quality or cut?

For quality, my understanding is that there is a premium hand tailored HF that is superior to anything by Brooks; that HF mainline "Madison" models are fully canvassed and about on par with BB's premium Golden Fleece models, perhaps slightly lower; and that HF's "Hickey" partly-fused models are about on par with BB's partly-fused 1818 models. I might have the name wrong for HF's lower priced line. I don't think anything by HF is as low quality as the Brooksease or 346 line.

For styling, HF is much more structured than the standard BB cut. BB is very soft shoulder, some drape, not much waist suppression. HF has strong shoulders and clean chest (I call it the American Brioni look) and some (although still not an enormous amount) of waist suppression.

This is my understanding. I am prepared to be corrected.

I would not compare mainline Hickey Freeman with Golden Fleece, not even close. The buttonholes on the mainline HF are machine made (handmade on the GF) and the fabrics on the GF are far nicer than anything I have seen on HF. I own both, so have no axe to grind. I just think GF are a much nicer, and better quality suit.

Which is more slim-cut, the Golden Fleece line or HF's main line?

Depends on model but the HF Madison is considerably slimmer than the Greenfield GFs.

I personally find the Hickey Freeman Madison line to be equal to--if not superior to--the BB GF.

I don't think BB Golden Fleece is any better than HF Mainline. I have been working at BB for about 2 months now and I am less impressed with BB suits than I was before I started working there. The fabrics, the canvass material and the styling are lacking. In my opinion HF represents a better value.

I have both HF and Golden Fleece.

First off, Hickey Freeman mainline smokes any of the regular BB stuff. Golden Fleece and HF are a little more comparable. There are advantages to both.

HF fits me much better.
OTR Golden Fleece is very bulky on me--it does not have much shape.
I've tried on GF suit jackets and they look really baggy.
My one GF item is a DB Tux that required major alteration but is great now.

HF's styling can be a little more interesting, but still very conservative.

HF's quality seems pretty consistent. Actually their suits hold up really well, I have about seven of them. The Lora Piana fabrics have a nice hand and are pretty wrinkle resistent.

Quality wise the GF seems a little more handmade than HF--the garment flows better--still nothing like bespoke, the best OTR Italian stuff or Oxxford.

I just purchased a GF, in Regent fit, it's slimmer than the BB Madison cut (which i guess is made by Greenfield, this one is made in Italy by Crusado??? *not 100% sure, by according to the pants label it seems to be corret), overall i think i'm very happy with the quality of the suit, shapes well and its in Super 150.

Never really explored HF, but heard mixed review... so my question are:

1. Can some describe to me the main difference between BB GF (Greenfield) and HF's top line model in terms of quality, size, hand work and value?
2. What's the HF line that's comparable to BB's 1818? I know 1818 is half canvassed, is the same true for HF?

I have 2 HF Madison model suits and I love them. The Loro Piana fabric is beautiful, and they fit me like a glove. I had the sides taken in a little to give a little more tapered look because i'm athletic, but other than that they fit me like a glove.

Plus you can go to the HF Outlets and get most of them for $750 normally and even $500-600 on sale. Once of the best Bang-for-your-Buck suits in my opinion. I'm very happy with them.

It is a Golden Fleece suit, has a Unite! tag, and the pants have the HF connectors.

It is a handmade suit so would probably be at or near HF top of the line. It is clearly higher quality than the 1818 Madison suits made by HF for BB.
