What's the ideal military body? - Page 4

The problem is that endurance and muscle aren't mutually exclusive. Just because you are muscular doesn't mean you can't run forever with a full pack and a rifle.

For some jobs you need both. For some jobs, you need less endurance and more muscle. For some jobs you need more endurance and less muscle. For some jobs you need more intelligence than either, for some jobs you need dexterity and focus, but intelligence, strength, or physical endurance are unneccesary. For some jobs you need natural aptitudes than cannot be taught or trained.

Beating a dead horse. There is no "ideal" body that will apply military wide. None.

OK. There is no "ideal" military body.

If we exclude pilots, crewman, officers, etc and stick to "traditional soldiers" (i.e the guys who kick ass), does the answer change?

Does anybody know what I'm getting at? Maybe if we took a representative position of the type of soldier we are talking about ( what was rambos role in the marines?)

Infantry only? No. There are skinny guys, more muscular guys, WOMEN. Etc.

He didn't have one. Rambo was a Green Beret.

I'm reasonably sure this is it:

I would think Tyler Durden stands a better chance.

define "kick ass" - in an infantry company, there is a guy who carries a 60 mm mortar (picture a little tiny canon) and basically walks slowly and then sets it up and kicks ass by shelling from 800 meters, and there is the guy who kicks ass by running up the hill and shooting you with a plastic and aluminum carbine at 10 meters. one needs to run fast with 50 pounds on his back, the other needs to cover long distrances with 150 pounds on his back. very different ways of kicking ass.

first, rambo was a green beret, second, he was a fictional character, 3rd, I don't even think the guy who wrote the first book pictured him so muscular.

but more importantly - why are you asking? maybe if we understood what you are thinking we would understand the question better.
