Let's agree not to quote the Balut pictures.

WARNING!! TO SF MEMBERS OF THE WESTERN WORLD!![/size]
DO NOT SCROLL DOWN ANY FURTHER IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO SEE PICTURES OF BALUT!!

It's usually eaten straight from the egg. I've never really seen the whole thing spread out on a plate like that, except on Fear Factor.

I must try that sometime.

I used to love the balut as a kid, the broth especially, which looking back is like drinking amniotic fluid. In any case, I stopped eating them when I crunched on a quite mature fetus, with beaks and all.

Still I've tried horse sashimi, sea snale bile, bull penis, salmon and tuna eyeballs, braised turtle, pig blood (as stew in Manila, and as dimsum in China), agave worms (on a dare), field crickets, chitlins or pig intestines and Spam.

The latter seems more fitting.

There's this little restaurant in Chinatown (Binondo) that serves turtle soup...

Pig blood dimsum -- is this similar to the cubed chicken blood (a.k.a. Betamax) we get on the street in Manila?

I went to a restaurant that served grilled silkworms/moths. They were still in the shell or whatever and then they peeled them open to expose the wings, then grilled them.
They also had turtles. Served live, flipped over onto their backs, then broken open through their chest using chopsticks.
