I wonder if China is going to close down any other French companies' stores for "disqualification".

If LV knew any better, it would've comped the relevant officials. Afterall, those guys can't buy LV products for the missus on their official salaries.

Like all journalists in China, the author of this China Daily piece does not dig very deep. All of the interesting details or causes for this were neatly skipped.

It does look worse for the Chinese government than it does for LV. It will be a typical example of their not explaining clearly what LV has done, which will automatically give rise to speculation about corruption by the local authorities.

Anyway, I guess the Administration of Industry and Commerce of Zhejiang is the big winner here. LV must not have paid protection in the right amounts or to the right people. I wonder what this means for other luxury stores in China.

I love that "some of the boutique's products did not measure up to standards." I'm sure they measured up to the standards of the kept women of the officials in the Administration of Industry and Commerce.

Without transparency and a free press, governments have a great deal of difficulty appearing like they are doing anything right, at least in the eyes of foreigners.

The LV boutique is not closed for political reasons. The prevalent rumor on the street is the boutique sold out the authentic LVs, decided to fill the store shelf by buying the knock-off from the street. I am really shock if this is proven to be true.

I believe the article mentions the reason of confiscation being that leather LV products in China are not accompanied by a piece of sample leather.

China has a lot of "rules" for importing & retail

I bet LV make some enemy in that province, this is one of the most peculiar thing that could ever happen to any established brand in China.

Or it could serve as a warning to the Chairman of LVMH, who was a supporter of Dalai Lama and funded many of his operations

In either case I do hope this thing would settle real soon, Hangzhou is a very rich city, there are tons of typical Asian consumers there

I didn't know about the LV's affiliation with the Dalai Lama. Chinese Government is still a very ugly regime under all that glitter of reform and modernity.

Not a affiliation, but a connection between the chairman and the some tibetan groups. Many believe he provide funding for some of the groups

I don't agree with your point on Chinese government, I think they are doing very good and whatever your regime is, this kind of things happens.

LOL, I am damn sure this would happen

But if you really think about it, a well connected LV store would fill the wives with its bags BEFORE it get its store closed for some "leather piece"
