Tiger Woods is a real inspiration. He's a testament to what willpower, hard work, focus, and desire can accomplish.

How he stays cool under such pressure situations, how he sinks that putt there with the whole world watching, expecting him to make it, is incredible. I don't know where he finds the guts to do it.

Every time I see him do something like what he did this weekend at Torrey Pines, I end up being inspired to be better at the things I do every day. His greatness rubs off on others and lets people dream, and that alone is enough to be thankful for.

Tiger Woods just plain freakin' rules. i couldn't believe how nervous i was watching that last putt and here i am in the comfort of my own home. not to mention the par save putt on 17. and 13, 17 (ok, so that was just luck), 18 from round 3.

kudos to Rocco. seems like a US Open win couldn't happen to a nicer guy who just enjoys the game of golf.

Amazing talent, truly amazing. I haven't seen it, but from what I'm hearing he's performing miraculously.

Talent? Or is it the most amazing testament to hard work and discipline to be the best?

It's probably a mix of both.

Cause he's ranked #157 right now and hasn't won in 6 years. But I'm still a fan and hope he beats Tiger like a drum.

I don't know that anyone (at least not me) is counting Rocco out, so much as acknowledging what an amazing thing it is that Tiger did considering (a) he hasn't competed since April, (b) is playing in some pretty good pain (c) playing on one of the toughest setups around (d) clearly didn't have his best game, perhaps in part due to the injury, and yet despite spraying the ball all over the course still managed to beat the field except for Rocco who played what has to be considered the best tournament of his career.

Rocco may still do it, but he's got to figure out how to block out the Tiger circus. Rocco got to the position he did by not playing in the same group as Tiger all week, once he gets into that circus it's a whole new show and Tiger is the only one that has to deal with that mayhem day-in and day-out.

There is no doubt that (a) Tiger is a better tournament golfer than Rocco by some exponential factor, (b) Tiger has been successful on this stage at this level several times in his career, Rocco never has, (c) Tiger has the ability to go much lower than Rocco.

On the other hand (a) Tiger is hurt, and, consequentially (b) is spraying the ball all over the course, relying on his short game genius to bail him out.

You figure that Rocco's best day is a consistent round with lots of fairways and greens where he gets to 2 or 3 under par. Tiger's got the ability to shoot 5-6 under if he can keep the big numbers off the card (which he hasn't been able to do this week).

I don't think even par will win today. One of the two will get it to 2 or 3 under unless one of them blows up early and basically allows the other one to start lobbing softballs into the middle of the fairways and greens and getting out with pars to win.

It's going to be fun to watch.

I don't watch golf, and this is the closest thing to a US Open thread, but holy **** Mediate almost aced that third hole while Tiger bogeys it after driving it into the bunker. Tiger is down (up?) one stroke after 3 holes.
