Are you looking for electro-ish stuff, or more poppy stuff? Check out Martin Solveig, Rex the Dog, Mousse T, Dannii Minogue, im sure there is way more but i cant think of them off the top of my head

Anything by Erika, esp. "I Don't Know". I heard it while in Italy. It's totally infectious.

There's BassHunter if you guys like techno/trance. Some great songs, but the lyrics are kind of weird.

Surely you're familiar with DAFT PUNK Probably not the reply you're after, but I love those guys

Danii Minogue is an Aussie. How about Sigur Ros? Junior Senior do a nice line in silly good-time dance music. Ian Pooley is good too, if a bit old. I liked Camille's last album (lead singer of Nouvelle Vague); also a big fan of Les Negresses Verte, although I don't think they're really in your territory.

I believe you're looking for Eurodance, basically poppy tunes over progressive trance beats. Just search for that and you'll find 1000s of bands. Order from amazon.uk or something or pirate if you prefer that. There's probably plenty of websites with eurodance mixes, which should be perfect for your purpose (background music while driving). A few years ago there was this really cheesy act with dancy songs full of sexual lyrics using the same cast of characters over and over but I can't remember their name.

Damn, old thread. I guess you found what you were looking for.
