80's prom outfit

I've been invited to an 80's prom party. The 80's weren't really my thing, I was way to young and naive to really grasp the culture. Any ideas on what I should wear? My first thought was Crockett from Miami Vice - light colored suit, pastel tank top, sandals. I think I'd feel like a douch if I tried to do a rock & roll look, but I guess that's another alternative. What say you?
