Hi all,

Do you think you can still wear a good pair of (japanese denim) jeans if you are in your 60s? It for a shirts/ sportcoat kind of guy, sorry I have no pictures! Any advice would be greatly appreciated

Many Thanks!

Leon

I think that age is not the appropriate metric. Finding a good fit is more important. If your waist is not broader than your hips, and at the same time you have enough butt to fill the seat, you can still wear jeans.

And also depends on the cut/style. Noone wants to see a 50 year old trying to pull of the skinny leg emo look

Unless said 50 year old is part of a world famous rock band...

No.

Not for anyone.

Esp. not Glenn O'Brien.

That said, some styles look best on young guys or guys who somehow preserve young-guy bodies.

For the What Not To Wear pic, there's that pic of the A&F head guy...in khakis or denim, I forget, but he is the supreme negative example in this case.

My Dad, his friend and I were boarding a plane in the 1970's when denim was "the thing". My Dad said to his friend, "You know, I think I need some jeans". His friend, replied, "I think you need a 34 inch waist"!

Almost anything will look good at any age if you are fit and it fits properly.

I was just telling my friend today that I'm tired of going out at night and seeing a bunch of 40 year old teenagers everywhere.

You can dress for your body type regardless of age. For some people your body type will change. Just make it age appropriate because the younger you *try* to look, the older you will actually appear.

If you stop wearing denim what would you wear? Sweat clothes are popular in nursing homes so I guess that is one possibility.

There are plenty of alternatives such as poplin, linen, wool, cords, etc.

True enough as far as clothing is concerned and they all definitely have their place. But having grown up in denim of one sort or another, it's just hard to see any of those as go-to casual / streetwear type of thing.

Denim is truly a multipurpose garment that would be hard to dismiss at any age. I haven't worn it in a while (sort of on a break from it) but I understand its functionality.
