Cheap DVD Shelving?

My bookcase in my office is overflowing with DVDs and I want to free up the space for more books (it's a 50/50 split right now). So I'm moving my DVDs into my room and I want a cheap shelving solution. Any recommendations? I was looking at the shelves designed specifically for DVDs on the Ikea website, but I remember someone saying, "Don't buy anything from Ikea you'll be sitting shit on."

I explored this many times and decided its way too much hassle to do shelving systems. The DVD cases are NOT unique and are NOT collectors items. Having them displayed is just clutter IMO.

I buy caselogic DVD binders. You can put liner notes in there and get a few cases based on genres, tv shows, etc.

Most of my DVDs come with lots of extra reading material. I definitely need a shelving system.

one of my friends is happy with the glass encased, wall mounted DVD storage system from Ikea. I think that would look rather nice.

Cool, I'm going to check that out now. And thanks for the initial suggestion, also; I just don't think it would work given the kind of "packages" I buy.

I've got some DVD shelves from Ikea and think its great for what it is.. You need to be careful with stuff from Ikea. Its either going to be complete junk or a great bang for the buck. Give the floor models a little English and see what the quality of the materials are. Be sure its not that extra cheap, low density fiberboard.

I decided to save my money and purchase a Can-Am unit when I receive my stimulus check. Saw where Gary Tooze of DVD Beaver owned one, went to the site and configured my own and was very, very impressed. I think this will be a better decision in the long run. You can check 'em out here: http://www.can-am.ca/CD-storage-DVD-storage1.htm. I think that's by far the shittiest-looking website I've ever purchased something from. Ack.

I know people love to slam Ikea, but really it's just a shelf. I mean, you'd have to try really hard to fuck that up. I've used Ikea shelves (Billy/Benno) for years with no problems. The things I like about them is that they are cheap, and very modular - you can just have a plain shelf, you can buy a glass door that attaches to the shelf. The shelves are designed to fit together with other things that Ikea sells, like TV stands, etc. Plus, if you continue to acquire more DVDs it will probably be really easy to find another of the exact same matching shelf in a few years.

Boltz USA makes some nice modern racks for DVDs. I have a 330 CD capacity that works well.
