Is there much to do there really? I've only seen the occasional National Geographic/Discovery channel program on it, but there didn't seem to be much to do other than go look at the big stone heads. Should be cool though....

Never been, but I love Santiago. A great city if you stop there, try eating at "Like water for Chocolate".

Have never been. But if you dive you will have a field day, the reefs there are amazing. I am sure you could snorkel and have just as much fun

yeah, I have meetings in santiago on friday morning and monday. I am going to fly out friday night and back sunday night. so I will have all day sateruday and sunday morning. looks like I'll just rent a motorbike and see everything myself - the island is 23 miles by 11, so I can do it in a day.

but if anybody does have personal knowledge, please let me know.

There is a guy who makes amazing soft suits will all hand canvassing for $120. He is from southern Italy and has semi retired to Easter Islands. It is best if one purchases the canvas, dommete, thread etc ahead of time as he doesn't often get replenished.

Just kidding GT, take pics, and enlighten us with whats there. Safe journey.

got back (or, I am actually in Sao Paolo, but off the island). had a blast, but I don't have the fucking cable to post pictures, so when I get home next week I will.

spent 48 hours, which is all anybody really needs. rented a quad, saw pretty much every corner of the island. took maybe 500 pictures. really fantastic. I don't know if I would have gone if I had to pay for the trip to Chile, but it was really great.
