I see it now. I was looking more at the tile floor HCL was walking on and the French inspired architecture of the Embassy as my clues to 'Nam . . .

Coppola pic is an adaption of Conrad's story - this is a perfectly accurate literary allusion. Taking it a step further, and substituting the SF gestalt, perhaps it is not too far-fetched to view foo.gif as a Kurtz figure?

Sorry, 'Nam is nothing like the Congo in reality.

While the parallels of folks not in their native elements conflicting with the natives are there, Coppola is all Hollywood. 'Nam was incredibly relevant at the time he made Apocalypse "inspired by HoD" Now, so no surprise there which would get more moviegoers responses.

You just like it because there's no break on the trousers. :^) Kidding and I agree that it looks very nice.

OK, forget Holywood and let's shift to Belgian Congo - is the Kurtz/foo.gif comparison still valid?

I know a surgeon who wears royal blue belgian slippers (to match his eyeglasses and his Audi) around the office. First time I'd ever seen them in the wild.

Inasmuch as Kurtz was portrayed as a semi-autistic renaissance man who through his charisma induced the natives to worship him, the SF equivalent would be Iammatt. foo.gif is more the middle man between Kurtz and the natives. But, as Iam has mentioned, his SF persona is more of an act in an anonymous field.

IRL the closest person coming to Kurtz would be Steve Jobs, whos dying words "Oh wow, oh wow" even echoed Kurt's pre-mortem "The horror, the horror . . ."

Gents,

I just bought a new Rubinacci tie on eBay and looking at the label I believe it's vintage/deadstock.

Is there any way of telling from what period it is?

I believe you're correct. I've not seen a label like that since the early 90s when Rubinacci sold RTW at Louis Boston, and those labels typically had "for Louis Boston" beneath Rubinacci. So your tie was probably made for a retailer, and I can't remember when Rubinacci last sold RTW in the US.

Filene's in Boston once had tons of Rubinacci ties, but that was years ago.
