Laptop: messenger bag style or backpack?

I'm going to order a bag from CODi today and I can't decide. I've never used a backpack for that purpose but the people I know who have them swear by them. They seemed to casual to me in the past, but they seem to be gaining in popularity.

FYI I use a standard 15.4 and probably will never have anything bigger.

Office is business casual. Aside from the rare client site meeting, that wouldn't be a concern.

Backpack: even distribution, you can carry more stuff more comfortably. Messenger: one of your shoulders will hate you, as well as your back. While I had a backpack before, I carry a messenger now because I found the backpack to be a little too cumbersome. My back kills me after every time after having walked around all day with my messenger with several books in it.

I hate backpacks in professional settings, regardless of their merits they still make you look like an intern (even if you are one, you don't want that look). If the laptop is so heavy that it would hurt your shoulder while commuting, get a lighter one. I have a 17" and the only time I considered commuting with it was because I was traveling for two weeks and knew I'd need DVDs and solitaire to occupy my time.
