I was excited I finally got tos ee the king of Kong on G4tv the othe rnight. As a fan of classic games, I am amzed at the scores these guys put up. I have Pacman and Donkey Kong on console at home and hope to own them one day on the arcade version. Those scores were insane. Over a million points on Dk is awesome. I tohught it was entertaining and that Billy Mitchell is a huge jerk off. Even nerds get their 15 minutes of fame.

You'll be sorry to hear then, that Mitchell has reclaimed his high score on Donkey Kong. Loved this when it came out, as I spent much of my youth in arcades (I was the local Track&Field/Hypersports champ)

The movie is awesome. Like Thrazozaag said, it makes me sorry to hear Captain Mullet reclaimed the record. That guy is King of Dong.

It was a really well done movie. What pissed me off more than Billy Ray Cyrus circa 93 holding the DK record was the number of sycophants around him.

+1; he had quite the kiss-ass chorus.

I really hope someone smashes his record soon. It really pissed me off that other folks played their games in public and he only sent tapes. He sure did have some supporters at funstop.

This is maybe the funniest movie I've ever seen. Also, I didn't think Billy Mitchell came off as a bad guy really, but he certainly has some (hilarious) character flaws.

King of Kong did not conclude the story, however; the competition between Billy Mitchell and Steve Wiebe continued afterward. The information is easily researchable.

Some of the people involved in the film thought that the making of the film itself affected history, that is, that the people involved/being filmed behaved differently because of the presence of the cameras.

Chasing Ghosts is a documentary that was filmed concurrently and covered many of the same subjects (Walter Day, Twin Galaxies, Billy Mitchell, Steve Sanders, et al.). It was shown to much acclaim at Sundance. Reviews have been very positive, and the general sentiment is that it offers a broader and more evenhanded treatment of classic-video-game competition than King of Kong did, which, as enjoyable as it was, was pretty sensational. Chasing Ghosts is not available on DVD, nor has it been released in the theaters yet. I read that the producers are talking with a major distributor about a broad theatrical release; I hope this happens. I loved King of Kong and would love to see another in-depth treatment (from a different perspective) about the very same subject. And soon.

Apparently, Billy Mitchell is not the douchebag that he is portrayed as in the movie. The filmmaker tried to sensationalize the Billy Mitchell vs. Steve Wiebe angle. A lot of discussion has taken place on this very subject at the Twin Galaxies forums.

I still think he is a dbag no matter what. Show up and play people in person. All the others did. I am sure i could smack Mitchell around in a game of tecmo super bowl or madden 08.

Wow they are pretty uptight about it all. Must see the movie now.

Clearly, spin or no, Billy Mitchell is a dong. Period. For TG to post anything other than praise for this guy would cause their strange little world to implode.

I mean, Billy Mitchell showed up and set the King Kong record live. The current record as it stands is a live one set by Billy Mitchell shortly after the film was completed--exactly twenty-five years to the day he set his original record. If that's not proof of his prowess, then I don't know what is. A lot of premeditation goes into such an event, and you get only one chance.

Technically, you show up to the arcade that day and you get however many tries as you'd like. Billy Mitchell--- obviously impressive, but ironic that he pressure the Wiebe guy to come do it live and he just happens to send in a tape to play WHILE Wiebe is playing.

Had to netflix the dvd from this thread. Pretty good movie.
