If you buy from a reputable company you are less likely to be disappointed in your purchases, regardless of costs, so long as you know exactly what you are buying. If you buy from a private "guy" whom nobody really knows, without a long-standing reputation in the industry you are taking a buyers risk. However in this case I believe that the person of interest had built some relationships on this forum and then mislead customers into believing they were receiving some sort of superior / special product then what was actually received.

He sold $300 dollar ties over gmaill, and when it turned out they weren't vintage fabrics people got pissed.

The truth is more complex than that. I had a good experience with Passagio Cravatte. I met Gianni and Marta in Milan. It is much better to see the fabric samples in real life. The ties I got were definitely unique. One of them looked clearly hand printed given the subtle irregularities. The colors were saturated all the way through the silk suggesting they weren't inkjet replicas. I'm not that interested in the vintage aspect, but other people were. I think this business sunk because the vintage aspect was over sold and customer service was wanting.

Don't understand that question?

I've bought all sorts of clothing items online, at a > price than 300 usd.
The problem was the integrity of that particular seller.

For example, as someone based in England, if I wanted a bespoke Cappelii tie from Naples shipped to UK, it would probably cost near enough £130, something close to 300 usd, depending on exchange rate.

Ties and pocket squares are tricky for me without seeing them in person or having a sample to see what goes with my outfits. Over time I've learned that ties that seem like a good idea are usually a bad idea when you can't pair them with any outfits. I just have a hard time understanding why someone would pay $300 without seeing the tie/sample in person. It's unfortunate that members got mislead in the process or didn't receive an item that was purchased.

As a business owner myself, it comes down to integrity and character - you either have it or you don't. If you are capable of screwing even one customer knowingly, without being man enough to admit to fault, you lack both tributes - and that's all I have to say about that :)

Back to awesome DBs :)

I won last years charity auction for two of his ties. I received them a few months ago (part of the delay was due to my indecision on fabrics) - they are both very nice, particularly the embroidered Chinese script though one has a nonsaturated back that some state is a sign of inkjetting. Two other ties that I ordered on top of the auction, at the same time, arrived last month - also very nice with 'fully saturated' grenadines.

I have four of his ties that I wear happily. I have even deceived myself into believing that they are vintage fabric.

What makes for a better double breasted configuration, 6x1 or 6x2?

Late 1940s, found at an antique store for $26. I love the contrasting buttons on this one. Ventless.
How does SF feel about three-piece double breasted? You can see the top button of the vest when looking head-on, but it's difficult with all the angles in this photoshoot. This was at a dance party, hence the bowling shoes instead of something more SF-approved.

Depends on body type. 6x2 is better generally, as the top closure is at waist level or slightly above instead of hip level. With a second anchor button, it can be buttoned on the lower buttons to get the longer line of a 6x1 without losing the option to close at waist height. The longer line of a 6x1 works well on shorter bodies (see how Fred Astaire usually wore his 6x2s, or the increased popularity of the 6x1 in Asia), but has to be cut really well to have any significant waist suppression. Also, the 4x1 configuration usually looks better than a 6x1 in my eyes because it only has one set of decorative buttons rather than two sets and therefore the closure buttons can be set at waist level without crowding the upper buttons.

Also, thanks!

Maybe this coat needs a pressing but, it looks sloppy. And, the waistline looks very high. The purpose of the high waistline is it working better than something else?

^^ Suit looks fine to me, but dude needs to be photographed from a higher angle, because staring up one's nostrils is not flattering. (But I know this is to show off the suit, the photo just bugs me as a photographer)

Eventually I would like to start a local men's shop, and I would bend over backwards to make sure I provide excellent service and a great experience for the folks who would come into my shop. If I could convince more folks to wear double breasted suits that would be fantastic. shysters piss me the hell off and I hope I never have to deal with them when I get my shop going.

I get your point, but the £130 is closer to 200 usd.
