Yay when it's cold outside. Nay when it's warm. I like to keep these decisions pretty simple.

Nay to wearing an overcoat in warm weather.......a lightweight well crafted rain jacket on the other hand can be worn if it looks like the weather may turn or if it is especially windy.

Invest in a quality overcoat that fits properly. Most men wear overcoats that are too large for them. If you want to add a bit of flair there are numerous things you can do to it to make it yours. Check out what this Canadian tailor put together.

I personally tend to wear my overcoats a bit oversized, at least a good couple of sizes larger, in fact. I love these to fit big, love the extra room, so I can comfortably wear suits or sweaters, scarves, etc., under them. Since I'm tall, the extra room also helps keep the coat long.

But I also keep one that's truer to my size for when it's not as cold and I don't need the extra room.

I suppose there are alternatives. Parkas? Columbia jackets? Lots of sweaters?

http://img99.imageshack.us/img99/2968/jacket1oz6.jpg Thats me in my new jacket, would you say the fit is good? When I got it I thought it was one of the most awesome fits ever besides the sleeves being a tad long (I got them tucked in) but my sister thinks it looks big, whats your opinion? Do I fill out the shoulders well, the length, does it look too 'wide'? etc

That fit looks just right to me. IMO, an overcoat's not necessarily something to worry about having a trim and slim precisely tailored look. It's okay to be a little big, and in any case, yours is certainly not too big, from what I can tell.

So it still looks a little big (regardless of big being how it should fit)

If you think your gonna put on weight or likely maintain your current weight by wintertime when you'll need it then I'd say keep it and maybe get the sleeves shortened.

If you are going to likely lose weight before winter I'd say get the next size lower.

A little but nothing I'd worry about if I were you.

Normally I dont do this but is it acceptable to pop your collar with coats, I see that on coats it can look quite cool, or is that a Nay unless its really cold weather and you want to cover your neck

I agree with nay to an overcoat in warm weather. This isn't the Matrix. You aren't Neo.
