Best - or favorite - bars in DC - Page 2

Beat me to the punch on PX. So awesome. Then go downstairs for a fried Snickers. I also enjoyed Tabard / Saloon though I haven't been to either in a couple of years. PX will be my destination for bar-going for the foreseeable future.

Heh, yeah, Eamonn's is a great place to share some fish and chips before heading up to PX, and definitely a great place to get a parting dessert as you leave.

I used to live a few blocks from The Saloon, and it quickly became my favorite bar in DC. Their German selection is a relief from the ubiquitous Belgian fare.

What's the age group at PX?

+1 for Science Club. Nice and cozy, good crowd, and great funky music. Always a stop for me before meandering through DuPont for the night.

I find myself going to Marvin a lot lately.

I like the Round Robin at the Willard and the Reliable Source at the Hay Adams myself, or the Cosmos and National Press Club when I'm in town. But, I enjoy a cigar in Dc so that's the game changer--hence, the Patio outside the Round Robin or the garden at Cosmos(if you know someone) work if you have the craving for a smoke in the warmer months. Use to be the bartender at the Westin on Mass Ave(formerely the impressive Jockey Club) would look the other way when we lit up our stogies at the bar itself.

The Round Robin is a great place to simply unwind and have a drink. It's a lot more fun when you go there with a group of friends on President's Day and take on the task of drinking through the Presidential cocktail list.

Across from the National Press Club is a place called Shelley's Back Room which seems to have a cigar bar. I've never been there, but have been inclined to take a few of my cigars in there to enjoy a smoke.

I like some of the nicer Restaurant bars...Bisto Bis in the George Hotel, Vidalia's (same owner)...Mortons in Georgetown, Olives off Connecticut and 16th. All have great drinks, nice crowd and you can hear your company.

Drinks are the only thing worth getting there. And maybe the fries.

I have to agree with you there. The food is not what it once was. For dinner there are many finer choices.

Favorite bar to meet an old friend: RFD, Brickskeller, Saloon. For the reasons mentioned.

Favorite bar to make a new friend: Bourbon, Science Club. Coolness of a lounge without the pretentiousness. The Reef and Perry's both have nice roofdecks when the weather accommodates.

Favorite bar for a first date: Any hotel bar, for the quiet. I like the bars of the hotels owned by the Kimpton Group, particularly the Hotel Rouge.

Favorite bar to watch a sporting event: Buffalo Billiards, Bedrock Billiards. Lots of TVs and no cover for UFC PPVs at the former; friendly folks and close proximity to my apartment for the latter.
