Nightowl, when I spent some time in Atlanta I remember a shoe shine guy in a arber shop more or less across the street from the art museum - the best guy I have ever been too. middle aged guy (maybe even late middle aged) ran a good patter of conversation and did a great job. I usually round up a buck, sometimes 2 depending on the job and how much it costs.

Around my way, shoe-shines are $5. I usually tip $1 to $2 depending on how long the shiner spends on my shoes and how good the shine is.
