I'm going to my wife's x-mas party this sat. and I'm not sure what to wear. The party is a buffet for about 100 people with a DJ. The guests are hospital staff and doctors. Any help... Thanks

black suit, black shirt, no tie, black shoes

The punch bowl Or a blazer and grey flannels. I have a red vest that I wear to such ocaissions, too. With lots of dark cloting I tend to wear red socks at this time of year. But then, I don't take myself seriously at all.

Wear a red Christmas vest, over a white turtleneck and khakis with loafers.

Alexis's recommended outfit is to cool, I think, if you are over 30 or not a cool cat naturally. I could never pull off the black/black look. But I would go with a dark suit and cool shirt (not plain white) without tie and black shoes. If you have a checked spread collar shirt with a charcoal suit maybe?

Definitely no tie

I'd stay away from the Christmas vest syndrome. That's nearly as bad as Brooks Brothers cords with duckies.

I thought a suit and tie might be required because of the crowd etc.

It is not a shame to ask for the dress code. It saves you some frustration
