Best Restaurant "Room" in New York?

The bar thread got me thinking about this.

What restaurant has the best overall setting in New York? Not just decor, but the works: the room, the location, the view, etc.

Once I would have said the Oak Room, but alas ... Now I don't know what I would say.

You?

I really love the dining room in Del Posto; but, there is no "view".

Depending on the amount of construction by the subway stairs Jean-Georges has those great big windows.

The dining room at The Modern. While not a view of the city or anything like that, but having dinner by the MoMA's sculpture garden is pretty cool. Oh, and food, service, and everything else there is fantastic.

Loft dining room @ Del Frisco's midtown across from Radio City?

Mr. K's, very ornate, food not as good but a nice room?

I like the Modern, but I would not put it in the top five rooms, maybe not even the top ten.

I suppose someone may as well mention the Four Seasons. If not the best, then the most famous room?

The Strip Room - decor's warm, inviting and decadent and you're surrounded by people who are intent on eating, not seeing or being seen.

I am misunderstanding your criteria, perhaps. What about One If By Land?

Asiate is up there for me. The view is hard to beat, much better than Per Se. I never understood why this restaurant was not more popular btw

I am a fan of the art deco room at Eleven Madison Park. I also really like the room at Buddakan despite the douchey clientele and mega scale. The lunch/brunch experience at the River Cafe is pretty nice too, decor-wise

I don't know much about NY restaurants but I thought the view at Rainbow Room was pretty stunning when I went for a work event.

I was thinking of that one too. There aren't many grand, super high ceiling culinary temples in the city, are there?

Scores? Oh...sorry...that's probably different. Carry on.

[Certainly a different take on "decor."]

Does Gino's on Lexington count?

Fluorescent lighting, window unit for AC, Zebras on the red walls.

Come on, it's classic.
