Get an engine that doesn't put you to sleep

You might want to do a search on ADVrider.com for this subject, it's been talked to death over there.

I have a set of the M-Audio IE's (same as ultimate ears) but I don't think I would feel comfortable with them on a motorcycle (or my road bike for that matter).

That said, I have used them with a full face helmet on the mountain bike and they fit fine. Great isolation if that's what you want.

I have the Westone UM2's, which are out of your budget, but the lower model UM1's are $100 and seem to be pretty low-profile.

Thanks for all your helpful suggestions, everyone.

I've spent a few hours online doing some research, particularly on ADVrider (thanks for the reminder again, J), and I've eliminated the Vmoda's due to low isolation. The etymotic er6i's are the frontrunner, due to their extreme isolation and populatrity on ADVrider (probably due to the isolation). The shure's, UE's, Westone's, and M-Audio's are appealing too, as remain the various Jays.

My one problem with them all though, is that none have asymmetrical cables.
The Panasonic HJE70 and Sennheiser CX 300-B's are asymmetrical. Any thoughts on those? Should I give up on the quest for asymmetry? My gratitude as always.

Thanks for he help a few years ago, everyone. I ended up getting the er6i's and they held up great for three years. But the cables are dying, probably from getting caught up in my jacket zippers. I'm thinking I'll replace them through etymotic's generous replacement program, but I'd really like something with stronger cables. Any suggestions?

Motorcycling is much more visual than it is aural. You get used to checking your mirrors so frequently, as well as scanning sidestreets and incoming traffic, that an experienced rider will see something about to happen well before they'd hear it..
