Eating A lot...but healthy Q

For various reasons I have started buying lunch from a salad bar around the corner from my office. They have wide array of items from hot food, to Asian/Italain etc. As the weather gets nicer they cut up heirloom tomatoes etc. it is $5.49 per lb.....not cheap but very convenient. I am 26, 6', 185. I exercise a lot...almost everyday, mostly because when I go I can only spend under an hour. Anyway, when I buy my salad I normally take what I consider to be a more than generous amount ...and it usually settles at about 1.25 lbs. Is that a lot? It sure seems like it, I am not surprised by the weight, but it seems like a ton as most of the other customers on line are rather affluent woman who appear to eat nothing. My salads are typically a ton of vegetables, they have some good asian style spicy cucumber and cabbage salads, great tofu, a lot of other salad ingredients (mostly tomatoes), a small amount of avocado, some tuna or grilled chicken. I take no cheese/creamy dressing/red meat/fried food and very few carbs. IMO eating a pound + of food at lunch seems kind of ridiculous....on the other hand if I am going to eat mostly vegetables, which I rather enjoy, I need a bit more than I would if I was getting a chicken parm hero around the corner like a lot of the other guys around town. I think than being a 26 yr old male who does a ton of cardio probobly factors in somehow not to mention that my breakfasts are typically yogurt/hard boiled eggs/fruit (no carbs) during the week.

So, what do y'all think? Do I need to cut down or is it OK to eat my beast salad?

^ You're probably fine, as long as you stay away from the bad stuff (cheese/most dressing/bacon etc.) as you said and not binge on avocados or olives. FWIW, I used to do that all the time as well when I lived on campus and ate in college cafeteria with a buffet-style salad bar everyday.

Alot of Salad has next to no calories. A head of lettuce has under 100 for example. Salad's good for you keep eating it in quantity.

Seems fine. Particularly if you eat very little carbs at breakfast you'll need to get some somewhere to sustain throughout the day. And it seems as though this meal is taking care of that.

I would wager if you weighed my lunch most days it would tip the scales at over a pound easy, and I'm not eating salad. If you're you're happy with your weight level and not gaining anything, why worry about it? What you're describing sounds like a very healthy way to get quality calories into a diet that appears to require them, if you're 26 and doing a lot of cardio.

lettuce doesn't have alot of nurtitional value. try to eat more spinach if they have it. but either way you can't do a whole lot of damage with a salad unless you pour on a cup of dressing.

I don`t really think salads are THAT healthy. I think you should eat whatever you want, but my understanding is that lettuce has little nutrition. Also, most salads tends to be pretty high calorie meals once you add on all the toppings.

At 6ft and 185 lbs I'm not sure he has to lose all that much weight (did he even say he wanted to lose weight?) and a 1200 diet is a pretty drastic one for someone of his size and cardio schedule.

As for the salad, it really matters what your putting in it. From your description it sounds fine, as long as the avocado doesn't go overboard. I'm not sure the tofu is really necessary considering your other protein sources, but if you like it keep it in. Are you using any dressing? Olive oil and vinegar is good, but again you only want about one or two tbsp. Instead of a lettuce base, you should add some spinach in there, it will really up the nutritional value.

I'm a pretty fair sized fellow, and when I eat ultra healthy stuff like salads and steamed veggies, I eat preposterous amounts to keep from starving and have to also eat snacks between meals... all low carb, low fat, low calories.

I have found that focusing more on eating really good, organic, fresh un-processed food matters far more than anything else in terms of controlling my weight.

I'm not convinced the organic part makes any difference at all in terms of weight.
