Men's Health is for people to browse through to see what they want to cherry-pick for their lackluster program. Hey, a new exercise this month that the cover says will get my 300lb. lardass toned in 6 weeks!

It's a shitty magazine with shitty articles written by shitty writers that get their information from shitty sources.

^^^ pretty much all of those magazines aren't worth reading, especially for the exercises. Back in college we did a project where we went through fitness magazines and did a biomechanical analysis on the exercises they featured. Over 60% of them were biomechanically contraindicated, mostly due to them taking simple exercises which were effective and safe, then adding retarded shit to them to make them seem new and appeal to curious lardasses.

Ditto to that.

Given your stats.

Get with a trainer at your local gym. Learn the basics of weight training.

I wouldn't even do much with your diet right now except avoid processed and junk foods, if need be. Take a good multivitamin, drink lots of water, and get plenty of sleep.

Just keep lifting the weights. No cardio right now. Wait about a 6 weeks and see how you do first.

A couple of sites that might fit give you the information that would help you out:

CrossFit: Forging Elite Fitness

They post a Workout of the Day on the message board. You can subscribe and get the daily email. Videos on the site of the exercises.

Another site that is associated with the Crossfit site:
Brand X Martial Arts

The forum posts include scaled down versions of the regular Crossfit workouts.

Men's health has had some decent progams lately based around compound movements. None of it's particularly revolutionary, but I think they would be good programs for the average guy.

if you have time, i reccomend doing this workout i found on T-Nation http://www.t-nation.com/readArticle.do?id=917176 - read the article too. it's basically a round table of 3 seasoned trainers and bodybuilders talking about their theories of how actors like Tobey Maguire, Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman etc are able to pack 20lbs of muscle in 3 months. its a good read. there's a link to a workout that Christian Thibodeau has created in there.

i didn't do the supps except protein and creatine and i've put on a good 15 lbs (this is after i stopped the creatine). i also put more leg work in it too, and keep in mind its not as balanced as a regular routine woud be because the program is designed to just 'get the look'

you have to decide though, whether you want to put on the muscle or be cut, bc if you want to get big you gotta eat. i've found even when i eat super clean when i'm bulking, i still have a bit more pudge, than normal. good thing though is i can usually work it off with a good two weeks of intense cardio and a cutting program.

if you do end up getting a personal trainer at least go with one that has a good track record (like has pictures of his clients and there results). i work out at this neighborhood gym thats no frills. looks like a place where rocky balboa would workout. seriously, there's no music, a max of 10 cardio machines, def two sets of dumbells that go up to 170, in addition to the various equipment that looks like its used in a strongman competition like a concrete ball thats 2 feet in diameter. The guy that owns the place and who i've trained with puts on a bodybuilding show everyyear and has been in a couple of mags. he's real, not a obsessive meathead, and endorses all natural bodybuilding. people don't care about how cool your new nike dri-fit outfit is here.

i find t-nation to be a better read than bodybuilding.com and just discovered the articles and workouts on www.animalpak.com

i by no means live off of them, but i find the information on these two sites to be more sound than other sites i've been too.

you just gotta work your ass off. get the attendants at your gym to help spot you, and make sure your pushing out one more rep than you think your limit is.

P.S. i swear by the almighty deadlift and squat. i've read articles that say it releases more testosterone helping you put on muscle all around. besides that, its always better to see a guy with good muscular legs and a maybe not so big, but toned upper body (i.e. David Beckham) than it is to see a guy with a huge upper body that looks like he's teeter tottering on toothpics for legs.

just wanted to take a minute to remind everyone of the initial douchebaggery of this thread. just here to help.
douchebaggery? cmon my ass needs to be perky and hard as rock in my flathead 3001's, and it isn't going to get there all by itself, hahaha

anywho, i was going through models.com in the 'model of the week' section and most the guys there aren't even that muscular. they're just skinny, cut and toned and have also been blessed with not only beautiful faces but they have great shoulders . . . case in point noah mills . . . he's been in every major designer's show every season for the past 3 or 4 years plus tons of print ads. i mean pick up a gq or details and i bet you you can't not find a shot of him . . . here are his polaroids

i've got more muscle than that . . .

This thread is getting really homoerotic.

(no homo)
well, i mean, i'm gay and all, but i didn't mean it in a homoerotic way . . . i'm pretty comfortable with objectifying the male physique, but i don't think thats neccessarily a gay thing though . . .

come on guys, cut him some slack. He's only 16.

All the 16 year old I've know are clueless about how to find information. As in, they are quite good at text-messaging useless crap to each other, Myspace that and Facebook this, but when confronted with relatively simple questions, become completely incapable of using the same magical Internet to find information.

This may be due to their intrinsic laziness of needing to be spoonfed information instead of taking any initiative to search for an answer.
