Any personal rules for dress shoes + jeans?

I usually wear wing tip style dress shoes or loafers with metal clasps with jeans. Allen Edmonds can be had for a bargain on eBay. Models like McCallister, McClain, and the one I have, Marlow which I got on eBay for $30 barely used. I've seen Guapo wear his jeans with monks which looks great.

Dress shoes with plain or cap toes are just a little plain for casual wear with jeans. Though if you "dress" your look a bit, they might work.

Can we agree that we can disagree, and even make mistakes, without hating each other? Can we agree that we won't be that silly?

Alright, you got me. Let's hug it out.

In other words, you might dress like younger than your age, but please don't act far younger / immature.

I have to respectfully disagree with this.

I attained full force hatred of gmku from his very first day here.

Back on topic--I don't wear dress shoes with jeans, I think boots go better. I also have no interest in black boots, I don't think the color has a very interesting evolution / patination with age.

I also have different rules for treating boots depending on their type. I use polish on boots that can accept a high gloss like Trickers stow. Since mine are light colored to begin with, the polish gives them a nice, rich dark patina. On the other hand, I don't use polish on work boots like my White's semidress, just obenauf's LP. Since they started out dark brown, they are acquiring a kind of lightened scuffed patina which seems more fitting for work boots.

gmku- they are saying that "I don't know about this, but I don't like it. I guess someone could make it look good, but i'm not sure" adds exactly nothing to any discussion.

To answer the OP, If I wear dress shoes with jeans they are more of a beat up old pair of wingtips without socks and either shorter jeans or rolled at the ankle. dress shoes also tend to disappear underneath and look bad with bootcut or jeans that are aren't slim at the ankle.

I would second the brown as your first pair: they look better with a blue suit and I think they are even better with grey suits. I find that I wear my black dress shoes a lot less than I convince myself that I will when I buy them. I would also second getting a few pairs, even if the second pair is a beat up old pair off ebay. that way if you are going out somewhere and scratch or gouge them (for instance a bar) you won't have to worry about destroying the one pair of shoes that you can wear with a suit.

Thanks. Man, I don't think I've felt this beat up since high school. Thanks, everyone. Hated from the first day. Wow.

You and uncontrol should have a contest to see who needs the most attention datasupa- how come you haven't tried to guess an alternate account for him yet? normally you're a quick draw with that. stuartsan- i've never seen your fits so it's hard to recommend stuff. There are some really solid boots for cheap on ebay too. Workman like boots, army looking boots, and dress boots, all in various stages of wear and tear.

You've posted 186 times this month and each and everyone has been filled with zero informational value. If intellectual value were to food you'd be a big mac and fries.

Lurk for a while, ask questions when you need them answered, post answers when you know they're correct.

Edit: My personal rules are I've not been able to what I view as successfully wear dress shoes (black or brown) with jeans without my feet standing out like sore thumbs. I've bought a couple pair of PS dip dyed shoes which I think nicely bridge the casual -> dress shoe void for me.

i think uncontrol at least is humorous sometimes now. plus, his 5.8 posts/day doesn't compare to gmku's 11/day!

On that note, is it possible to get an update on them? I saw them in the sufu shoes thread ages ago and thought they were amazing. I'd really like to see them with denim, too, if you have a shot.

Oh I did consider Clark's, but they just don't make proper shoes, other than their originals line, IMO.

The reason I'm going with Loake is because they have it locally, but I would give AE a try if I manage to find it here.

If I follow through with this purchase, I'd wanna wear them shoes quite often, and not treat them like "suit shoes".

Anyway, which is harder to pull off? Dressing up chelsea boots or dressing down dress shoes? I'm kinda torn between chelsea boots and brogues with the dots detailing on the toes (not sure what you call them).
