Hey Cathpah

I bought the 9011 Beckman and the Brogue Iron Ranger about a month ago. I wore them both today for a half a day with the same thin sock. I think the beckman is slightly larger in both length and width. I am about an 11 in most shoes but always 10.5-11.5. I bought both in 11 and they only come in a D width. I feel like the Iron Ranger fits my foot more comfortably particulaly the shoe bed. I think the ranger is not quite as wide or as long but not hugely different - just a little smaller. I feel like in the Beckman I may just get a heavier sock or an insert. Things are a little loose but not crazy loose. I think the Beckman is a bit thicker and better leather. I get lots of compliments on them.

I love both and am happy I got both.

I do think there is a difference however in fit and thickness of leather. In hindsight I could see going down a 1/2 in the Beckman, but would probably not do so in the Iron Ranger. Hope that helps a little.  

As far as the laces, Red Wing stores give free laces for life, just go ask for some.

That helps quite a bit.  I do appreciate it.

I've got Beckmans on the way in size 9, as well as a set of smartfeet (green) footbeds.  I've never owned footbeds before, but I've also avoided shoes that lack any arch support (PF Flyers > Converse)...so maybe this'll be the perfect in between.

Wow...is that true?  That's amazing.  Think that'll work even if the current laces still work fine?  Or do the old laces need to fail?

edit:  looks like they even do this online.  I'm really impressed.  Alas, they don't allow me to select what type/material of laces.

I was in a RW store a few days ago. They gave me free leather laces. I didn't ask but id love a few sets of the waxed laces that come in the beckman.

That said, when I went by there a week or so ago in hopes of trying them on, the salesman basically told me that the Beckmans and Iron Rangers are "just for show" and not "real boots."  Not coincidentally, they didn't carry either of those, so I think he might have just been bitter towards someone wanting a boot that was both functional *and* good looking.

The Redwing store I stopped in said they just don't carry the more expensive lines and neither do any of the stores in my area. It was disapointing that I couldn't try them on before buying, but after a bit of research I went with everybody's advise and just ordered a half size down and got them for far less than retail.

Unfortunately this is probably why in the future we will see even fewer brick and mortars and less oportunity of trying on before buying.

It's true.  Not only was it disappointing to not be able to try them on in person, having such a sour salesman who talked down about some of the other Red Wing products just doesn't reflect well on the company. While I'm not easily swayed by salesman, some people might be really put off by that.  

Oh well, just like you...I've got mine coming for quite a bit less than retail.  I'll happily pay a bit more for retail if I find the customer service/sales to be outstanding, but when that's the experience I have, my dollars will go to the interwebs.

Please keep me up on the smartfeet and your reaction. Love to hear your opinion about size and the effect of the insert.

I just called Ball and Buck yesterday about my order.

I recieved an email stating they where getting more Latigo's in stock next Tuesday and would be shipping my belt as soon as possible after that.

Good thing to, I've just about got them to the point where I want them before wearing them outside.

Nice collection. I was tempted to pick up some black Beckman's just to mirror shine since the featherstone shines up so nice and I badly need a pair of black boots in my rotation...

I've had the Black Cherry's for about a week and wore them outside for the first time yesterday. I got the Black ones just yesterday and I have worn them twice for about an hour each in doors. I'm just trying to get them a bit broken in first before wearing them for a full day. 

Yeah I needed a bit of black myself, and both of my GT's should really serve me well this winter.
